Hmmm... I have both a .454 9.5" SRH and a .45 Colt 4" Redhawk. I load both with a Lee .45 Colt die set and a Lee FCD. Use Trail Boss for plinkers.
Between the two for bear protection I'd take the 4" Redhawk and load it heavy with 300-325gr and a bunch of H110. The 7.5" and 9.5" SRH are not meant for packing.
Between the 4" Redhawk in .45 Colt and the Alaskan in .454, I'd probably still take the Redhawk.
Between the 4" Redhawk in .45 Colt or .44 Mag, it's probably a toss up, but I'd go with the .45 Colt.
Between a 4" Redhawk and Bear Spray, I'd take the Bear Spray.
