hi , I am in the market to my a .455 revolver, would prefer a colt , but a clean Webley or S&W will do.
whats a good bullet to use in these old war horses , is the a old mold I should look for casting.
also brass too , who make any ??
I was really hoping you would get some good replies, but evidently that might not happen. I picked up a Webley Mark I last year that has a shaved cylinder. If you wind up with a Webley revolver, I suggest slugging the barrel and measuring the cylinder throats and forcing cone. They are not all .455 like everyone says. In order of cylinder throat, forcing cone and barrel mine measures .445", .452", & .446". I plan on loading a relativly soft .452 hollow based wadcutter. I have no experience with the S&W or Colt in .455 Webley; therefore, I can't say what they measure. They are both great guns in 45 Colt or 45 ACP, and I am sure either of them or the Webley would be a good addition.
Many of the mainstream companies have discontinued their molds. In .455 Webley, but there are a few companies that will make custom molds. I have ran across a few companies that sell cast .455 Webley bullets; www.mattsbullets.com and www.reedsammo.com come to mind. Good luck!
There's an article on the .455 Webley in the latest Handloader. Unfortunately, I've already passed my copy on. Won't get better info anywhere else. You can order it online from Wolfe Publishing.
