.458 Air Rifle

I had never heard of this (the article is from 2010 but I just saw it).

This kid took a deer with a .458 air rifle. http://mdc.mo.gov/conmag/2010/10-0/air-gunomics

$600 for a custom-made air rifle. I'll pass but it's still a cool idea.

air rifle

nothing really new, I have had a .458 air rifle for some years - Illegal to hunt with in PA - but great fun to shoot. Not your boyhood BB gun, It is loud and has recoil.
The top line are the guns from Dennis Quackenbush.....but you gotta get on to his waiting list and then wait.

Buying one for 600 is like hitting the lottery. you can not just "order one" either.. street prices are 1000 and up. I have a .50 cal and its a novelty for me more than anything else but it is accurate and usable for a few shots between fills. Other big bore airguns are out here now also. They are load and need support equipment for the air.

I have thought about doing the Muzzle loader conversion and trying to use that for deer in ohio. I have never gotten serious about it though.

a 200.00 used H&R or other rifle is likely more practical but the big bore airgun has its applications even if "just because

Quackenbush's are certainly not the best thing running in bigbore airguns. You would do best to look around, and do a lot of research on bigbore accuracy, and efficiency.

Look into the Air Force Texan for a big bore air gun worthy of big game hunting.
