.458 Win Mag 350 gr loads info

So time to reload for my Ruger No 1 .458 win mag. So how I understand it,loading using 45-70 data should be fine if I cant locate specific .458 WM data.I have limited 350 grain Hornady RN bullet load data which is the bullet I will be using. Any help ,experience suggestions .thanks Don

I checked my Lyman 47th, no data for either .458 WM or .45/70 with a 350.

Maybe it helps.

I load 300 he jacketed HP and 405 gr jacketed SP bullets for my Marlin levers mid-range, maybe a tad higher, but never at max. They kick plenty enough as-is!

Trail Boss was/is the ideal powder for the application. I've burned many pounds of it behind light bullets in the .416 Rigby. Of course, finding the stuff is a trick these days. As @Walkalong notes, AA-5744 is the current choice and works very well.

I use Trail Boss for .44 Mag power level in the .458 Win Mag. IIRC, around 1200 FPS from my rifle with the Hornady 350

It's been a few years, but I did have luck with 5744 and lighter bullets for my Winchester 70 Safari Express.

If you are looking for hunting velocity… I’d go to IMR3031 or even H or IMR4198 (or AA5744.)

I like cast bullets in my .458. H322, H335, Reloder 7 and 3031 work great. Bullets of 300gr through 485gr.

Find a copy of Ken Waters "Pet Loads" for the .458. His load with Reloder 7 has been great for me and a friend. Very accurate and good velocity.

Let me suggest you also call them to get advice. Here’s the note I took from calling them about light loads

I loaded 45 Grains of AA-5744 under a Hornady 350 Gr Interlock FP # 4503 and logged it as 85% load density (eyeballed), and it gives around 1775/1800 FPS from my rifle.
