I'm going on a blacktail hunt on Kodiak Island in 2 years. My buddy and I are taking two rifles, his Model 70 in 7mm RM for the deer, and my Mk-X in .458 WM as a bear stopper. My question is, what bullet in the .458? 500 grain solids aren't really what I want to use. I'd like something with some expansion, and maybe 400 grains. I was thinking North Fork or Barnes, but I know some of you guys (and gals) have had real world experience with stopping rifles and big brown bears. Any input would be appreciated.
