.45ACP semi-wadcutter vs. gelatin block

I have come across another test that I neglected to post to THR. It is a test that I did for Griz here, as appreciation for some lead bullets that he made for me.

The full story, with pictures, is here : www.brassfetcher.com . Second from top under '.45ACP'.

This bullet was unstoppable with the gelatin block and bullet arresting box - it blew a hole through 16" of gelatin and 16" of polyester-filled bullet arresting box. Never had a bullet done this before. Using MacPhersons chart 10-3 (from Bullet Penetration), I calculated the penetration of this particular round at 35" of gelatin!

To get the recovered bullet for this round, to ascertain whether or not bullet deformation had occured, I shot another cartridge through 3 half gallon wax paper OJ jugs full of water and through one full of sand and then into the bullet arresting box. The OJ jugs were all penetrated, and the bullet was found at 14" penetration into the polyester box.
