I have no where to ask except here as far as I know to get a good answer on a compatibility safety question. I recently bought a Taurus SS Judge 3" barrel with a 3" cylinder. So can I shoot HSM Bear Load 45 LC Colt +p with 325 Grain bullet out of this gun safely? I have shot ten rounds out of it with a lot of recoil which I expected. And if I cannot shoot it safely out of this Taurus than what revolver would safely handle this load or is it just a rifle round?

I believe the standard Judges (2.5" or 3") are only rated for 45 Colt ammunition loaded to SAAMI MAP 14,000 psi. With the one exception being of the Raging Judge that is chambered in 454 Casull/410.

Nope. 45 colt +p has no designated pressure. It is usually either tier 2 (23k psi) or tier 3 (32k+ psi) which is that bear load you referred too. NO way that gun could take either. You have to have a ruger blackhawk or Thompson center or bfr or custom 5 shot to shoot 45 colt +p. Or a .454 casull chamber. Some Smith and wesson revolvers and new ruger vaqueros and other Rugers will take tier 2 loads if you hand load.

It is unsafe to fire high pressure loads in the Judge. The Raging Judge was designed for magnum pressures presumably because the Judge could not handle that pressure as it is only chambered in the low pressure .45LC and .410. HSM specifically mentions not using their ammunition in the Judge, only in the Raging Judge. You have been lucky so far!

You need to look at the HSM website, it has a lot of information on their products. They have no information about rifles which can safely fire their ammo. That means as far HSM is concerned this is a handgun cartridge. They list handguns which can safely fire Bear Loads.

You shot 10 of them? Wow. I'm pretty sure they have a warning on the box. Might want to have a gun Smith take a look at the gun before you use it again. You may have went 50% over proof load pressure.

I just went to the WSM website and saw their info. So I will stick to 45lc or 410 in different colors. The gun is fine so thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated.
