Last weekend I drove over to the large Sportsman's Show in Harrisburg. Many interesting vendors and I met lots of friendly folks. I handled two 475 Turnbull rifles which are based upon modified 1886 Winchester lever action rifles. High quality color case hardening and smooth actions really impressed me. The 475 Turnbull cartridge is a modified 50-110 case that looks quite potent and very unpleasant to shoot. Paper ballistics are impressive if you're into that sort of thing. Does the 475 Turnbull have any advantages over the mighty 444 Marlin? That's a debate for folks more knowledgeable than me.

I would say. Judging by the table on their site, the .475 is a considerably bigger hammer. I'm a fan of the .444 but it tops out with a 405gr at ~2150fps out of a modified 1-20" twist late model Marlin. While the .475 can match that, it is also good for up to a 500gr at 1900fps. Which is about 300fps ahead of top .45/70 loads. Probably depends on what you want to shoot with it. The 500gr would be an excellent choice for dangerous game.
