GUNKWAZY, I doubt your offer will be accepted.

As was alluded to in post #13, if you took a 6" Anaconda barrel and cut it down where would the vents in the rib go?

If you look closely you'll see the space between the vents is slightly longer than what is encountered with either the 4" or 6" Anaconda barrel.

Now surely you're not suggesting they ADDED a section in the middle of a 4" to make it longer are you?
But then to compare it to a $150 chop job was preposterious enough already.

Ever hear of a 3" Python? Would you say it was cut down?
Or a 4" Detective Special? Now what could you chop to make that? Perhaps weld two 2" together?

Colt, like many manufacturers, produces some non-standard barrel lengths from time to time.

And just because you called Colt and didn't get the information you wanted to hear doesn't mean that some of us can't.
I have a long time contact at Colt that I speak to quite often.
It's all a matter of knowing who to ask for and which extension to dial. :neener:

Thanks Bluesbear,
But I did talk to Colt and they DID confirm it was the real deal.
They told me that it was shipped out with a 5 inch barrel.
That WAS the info I wanted to hear.
I know it's legit as well as Colt knowing it's legit.

Number of 5" Anacondas

This is second hand info from another board a couple of years ago but take it for what it is worth. Someone quoted about 150-175 were made and I think all were .44 mags. I, too, like the 5" length and wish it would make a comeback when production resumes but won't hold my breath.

GUNKWAZY- Why are you getting all bent out of shape? I never doubted you or your word. You deny being upset but you keep posting all these wild things that sound like you're all worked up.

Thanks but I don't want to pay for your historical letter. All I said was that Colt was not helpful when I called. Period. Again, and please listen carefully, this was not about you. It was about Colt's customer service not helping me. I did not post this to infer that you were not truthful. I posted it to illustrate that I wasn't having any luck with Colt.

Your gun is real is real. YOUR GUN IS REAL and I never said it wasn't!!!!!!!! All I said was that I wanted some info on this REAL GUN because I am interested in it. I didn't know they made these and I am interested. I am not trying to disprove your claims of originality. I BELIEVE YOU and DID FROM THE START. I would like some info on a gun that I didn't know existed. Period. That's all. I don't doubt that your word is good. I never said it wasn't. But can you tell me how many 5" Anacondas were made? Can you tell me what years they were produced? Can you tell me if they were made for one distributor or were they generally available? This is what I want to know. You seem to think that I am questioning you or the originality of your gun and I am not. I never did after the first post when you assured me it was real. I am not trying to verify that 5" Anacondas were made. I believe they were. I just want more info on the models.

Why is BluesBear calling my initial suggestion that the gun may have been shortened "preposterous?" I own several pistols that have had their barrels shortened or replaced. There are many guns out there that have been shortened to non-standard lengths. This Anaconda isn't one of them. Fine. But it's not preposterous to speculate in my first response that this might have been the case. Turns out it wasn't. Fine. But it wasn't preposterous. It was, in fact, a reasonable speculation until disproved. I'm not the expert BluesBear is because I can't glance at a photo and know for sure if the barrel is original.

Nice gun. I wish it were mine. I also wish I could learn more about these but apparently I won't get any info here because everyone seems more interested in attacking me than in discussing the gun.

Hey Gopguy, size don't matter

As I stated once before...
It was a factory product of COLT manufacturing and it was produced in 1996.
As per a little birdie at Colt.

As far as attacking THATGUY.... :banghead:

Eye-chee-wah-wah... switch to boxers. Cuz yo undies are squeezin ya somethin' fierce. :D
I was having fun and now I'm just bored.
QUOTE "Listen carefully??? "
C-mon now, Don't read so darn deeply between the lines.
Here's the poop...
Nobody I'm aware of has any printed info as to how many of these were made.
They are not documented in any price guides or books that I'm aware of.
Most people (99%) have never even heard of a 5 inch Anaconda.
As per my NICE conversation with the Colt people, this gun was made just as you see it in my pictures. As per COLT, the gun I have was produced in 1996. That's about all the info that anyone has.
Colt's customer service has always been very helpful on the phone to me.
That's it that's all. No attacks, just civilized typing.
