GEORGIA, GO DAWGS!
I called Glock a couple months ago and recommended an autoloader in .50 cal. The glock rep seemed to think that I was recommending a .500s&w autoloader, and wished me a nice day. What an idiot. My idea is this, a .50 cal round based on the .50 gi, making it into a .50 cal 9 or 10 round glock. say a 350gr. jhp going as fast as a 45 acp. 800 to 900 fps. WOW! I'd buy one! what do ya'll think?

It's illegal to produce a firearm that is over .50 cal. desert eagle had to re-do the .50ae because the bullet expanded past .50 in the grooves of the rifeling. Only muzzleloaders may be over .50 since the black powder rifles are not considered a "firearm" by the ATF

I don't think that's quite correct. The bore diameter of .50 BMG rifles is .510, and they are not illegal.

You can make rounds bigger than .50 caliber, but they have to get destructive device clearance. SSK Industries makes lots of big wildcats. There are also calibers like .600 and .700 Nitro Express, .577 T-Rex, etc. They are not illegal either.

If it is over .50 at the end of the muzzle, it is in violation of federal laws. A production firearm must not exceed .50 cal. Don't believe me, look it up. The.50 ae had to be redesigned to fit the law. I ain't saying it's smart, but it is, what it is.

the .600. the .700, and the .577 t-rex are not prodiction rifles, thay are experimental cartriges that are a joke to see someone shoot. the 20mm cartridge is a round that the military uses, but would you be in line to fire the first 20mm bolt action rifle in 20mm? these rifles are not in production, and are restricted under the curent gun laws.

the .50 gi is a great start! I am a Glock lover, so I'd like to see Glock make a .50 cal mainstream. I am not a fan of S&W, but I admire them for making the most powerful production revolver round in the world! It can't go past .50 under current law, and besides, who would want to shoot a bigger handgun?

This is not exactly correct in many ways.

nothing here is correct. you should do some additional reading. start with Cartridges of The World.

Here’s a current production 20mm bolt action repeater. It uses 20mm Vulcan ammo.

I personally own a 40mm it’s a current “production” LMT grenade launcher. I’m in no more violation of federal laws than if I were to own a functioning 75mm pack howitzer. It’s all perfectly legal.

Here’s SSK Industries 14.5mm rifle. No different than a 12 gauge shotgun (.72) under the eyes of the federal government since is has a sporting purposes exemption. .600NE and other large African hunting cartridges are also fit under the sporting purposes definition so are exempt from federal regulation.

None of this has anything to do with whether or not it is in production.

If I were the Glock rep I would have done the same thing. There is absolutely no need for a .50 GI. .40 S&W is doing just fine for most major LE agencies. It would be a poor move for Glock to tool up for a novelty cartridge like .50 GI.

Sorry pal, I think you need to do more reading on the subject.

I think gaston glock had enough fun playing around with that .45 GAP experiment of his. Now that it is pretty much a flop, I doubt he's going to jump on anything like this.

The bore diameter of .50 BMG rifles is .510
That is almost correct, but not quite. .50BMG is legal because the bullets are .510" but the bore is .50, and the bullets conform to the size of the bore when fired.

Oh cripes.

I think Stevereno must have lived in Kalifornicstan or something. I have never seen so many incorrect statements in one thread in a long, long time.

And Steve... I welcome the opportunity to be educated. By all means please post whatever regulations you are familiar with that everyone else here is not so that we may all know where that information comes from.

Since the military isn’t allowed the use of expanding ammunition, this round/pistol combination might be good for certain military units.

Hell just go all the way, gimme a 700 Nitro Express in a 12" barrel, "this is the most powerful handgun in the world, blow your head clean off!"

Military enemies may be wearing body armor.

Military Operators, when encountering body armor, shoot for the head. For this application, 9mm & .45ACP will contine to work fine.

So all those 600 and 700 NE rifles, doublea and drillings are illegal? Seems to me, SSK chambers Ruger #1's to calibers over .50 without problems. One chambering made by them was actially .950 caliber.

Maybe someone else needs to do thier homework. ;)

The .50GI would be a welcome improvement over the .45ACP. From what I have seen, the momentum of a .50GI cartridge was increased proportionately with the frontal area, giving a .50GI bullet (300gr) the same penetration depth as a 230gr .45ACP bullet, all else being equal.

It's a great idea.
