I rented a DE in .50ae at a range once (sorry no pics). It was a heavy thumper, but IMHO too much $$ and not practical. A .44 mag can do just about the same thing and for less.

Now I would like to get my mitts on a .50bmg:D that would be some good bang for the buck.

Unable to post a picture at the moment. But I do have a .50 cal CVA Kentucky pistol. It is by far the deadliest firearm I own, it can shoot satellites out of orbit. :neener:

How about my 4" 500 S&W Magnum?

zen, i don't see any scars/black/blue/swelling on your hand. are you planning to shoot it? or jsut hold it? :)

Thats a cool image

That gal on 10 ring tao post looks ubiquitously dangerous. She's got that innocent look to her like she's saying, check this out....and oh, by the way, it's good out to 3000 meters, so don't do anything stupid.

Zen,

I don't mean any offense, but your hand looks like a baby's hand next to that monster.

I hear that the porting on the longer version is supposed to tame the recoil pretty good, but how does that 4" shoot?

Zeroing our XM107, or plinking depending on who asks

Since I am right handed any scars or swelling would be on my right hand not my left hand. :D

No offence taken. The reason I posted that picture was to show just how big this beast is. A picture of it alone or even next to a full-size handgun really doesn’t do its size justice. Even with a 4” barrel the 500 is huge. It easily dwarfs every other handgun I have. I get a big kick out of reading the Brady morons talk about the S&W 500 as “bullet proof vest buster that is even offered in a 4” concealable model”.

As for the recoil, it depends very much on the ammo used. The 275g-350g isn’t that bad. I reload my own ammo using 325g bullets with light to medium powder loads. When I go to the range I tend to shoot about 20-30 rounds. When you get up into 400g+ recoil really starts getting rough and between 500g-700g you really want to have a shooting glove handy.

Trust me when I say that when I fire it at the local indoor range it really does get everyone’s attention.

i hear a magnum can break your wrist if you dont shoot it right. is this true or just an urban legend?

haha i looked at it and thought hey thats not very big, then i saw the hand :uhoh:

ammo is expensive until you start reloading, and it does have a distracting amount of muzzle flash, but it's never yet failed to put a smile on my face.

I have a CVA .50 cal muzzleloader, have fired about 7 rounds thru it, and have put about 1200 to 1500 rounds thru a Ma Duce, I'm sure I'll be putting a lot more rounds down range in the coming year and a half/ two years, unless I get a MK19 :neener:   :D

no photos though, perhaps when I'm on deployment

poor nadeem, livin' in a furrin country an all...

I think it's pretty unlikely to break break a wrist. It'll hurt like heck, and there may be a risk for a stress fracture.

An actual fracture from one shot? I doubt it.

The only reason .50's are such a big deal is a silly little tax collecting agency that has decided rifled bores over .50 cal aren't sporting.

A couple pics of my bro's Armalite AR-50. Scope is a Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 with NP-R2 reticle. Recoil feels like an SKS to me but the thing is loud and it takes some getting used to the blast wave from the muzzle brake. I was shooting a 46" tall sled (flat plastic kind) set up by my estimate about 1200 yards away with it. The Big Fifty is, if you'll pardon the pun, a blast!

My dream is to own an M2HB. I can imagine saving up enough money to somehow purchase one, but it's the ammo costs that truly make me cringe. Even the cheap surplus stuff is still around $1.50 a round. When one is used to spending $20-30 on ammo per range session for .45 ACP, the prospect of spending the same amount for only 15-20 shots is rather harsh.

Traditions .50 black powder carbine with patched round balls at 50 yards.
The other smaller holes are from a .22.
Shot other .50 and WAY larger muzzle loaders too...........don't think you wanted to know about those, did you Nadeem?
For scale, that is pretty much the size of a living squirrel.
