Greetings,

My wife is a recoil junkie. Some do druges, she does big bore revolvers.
Last weekend, she shot 90 rounds of 44 magnum in her Ruger Super Redhawk that I loaded: 240 grains bullet over 23.9 H110.

What has the biggest recoil potential for reloader 500S&W or 480 Ruger over a 7.5" or 10" barrell?

Thank you

The .500 S&W operates at higher pressures than the .480 Ruger. It will throw bigger bullets, faster. That makes it a recoil king.

Greetings,

Which barrel will create the most recoil with the same load 7.5" or 10"?

Thank you

Assuming your talking about perceived recoil, the 7.5" due to less gun weight. If she wants to tear a ligament, take the muzzle break off-:banghead:

Greetings,

I am talking about a BFR 500S&W here. I do not think there is any break on the barrel.

Thank you

A couple of things I would like to mention. It is a muzzle "brake", not a "break". As for perceived recoil...the 10" barrel will give more "felt" recoil than the 7.5" barrel. The increase in bullet velocity will more than offset the few ounces of increased weight. Also, the extra length will produce a more violent muzzle whip, and the bullet will produce more torque as it travels down the longer barrel. The longer barrel will produce less muzzle blast, especially with slower burning powders and lighter weight bullets. Some people mentally associate that vicious muzzle blast with the recoil "effect".
Hence the "perceived" recoil will be a big variable, while actual recoil will remain somewhat constant (given natural velocity variations), with a given handgun and load.

Hehe... and here I was going to say that I prefer the mild recoil of my 44mag over my old man's Kahr 40SW - thing is about the size of a deck of cards, weighs about as much, and MAN is it not fun to shoot.

Except for the OP's wife, perhaps :)

I've got an early X-Frame with the original style compensator on the front (8 3/8"), and it's a whole order of magnitude nastier than a 44 Mag. similar barrel and no comp. The only thing the comp helps with on my X-frame is to keep the muzzle from rising quite so much. The rearward push is still significant.

I was able to shot a friends 500"S&W" last week but I have to say I prefer my BFR 500. I have the 10" model and if your a recoil junkie and reload get some 700gr lead from Ranger Rick and loadm up:evil:. I have to admit I have started shooting this thing with gloves recently.:uhoh:
