I just recently had a factory muzzle brake put on my 50cal Desert Eagle and now its not cycling well. Ammo is not the issue, i'm using speer gold dot and it's never had a failure to feed before. Does anyone have any suggestions or common problems?

Adding a comp to the DE "shouldn't" affect cycling, since the barrel is fixed.

What is a "factory compensator" for the DE? I haven't heard of one, and the website seems unaware as well. They do have a muzzle-brake, though.

The Desert Eagle is gas-operated. A wild guess is that some of the gas pressure that would otherwise be put to work cycling the action is instead escaping out the muzzle.

Yes it is a muzzle brake, thank you for the correction.

A true muzzle brake would also push the gun forward, as opposed to a compensator which merely reduces upward torque (better known as muzzle flip). Perhaps this is a factor?

No problem; sometimes a website doesn't list everything, so I thought I'd check.

What does the factory say about it? If you haven't called, you should.

There are lots of "usual suspects": dirt, mags, worn recoil springs, limp-wristing (although a brake usually helps that). What kind of jam are you getting (failure to feed, failure to eject, failure to extract)--what's it look like when it happens?

I worry about the gas system sometimes: not sure how you'd clean it if it got dirty, how prone it is to damage (if you put the barrel in a vise, for instance, to install a brake :scrutiny:), and whether the fit between the piston (cylinder) and the barrel can loosen over time, so that too much gas escapes and the pistol unlocks "late."

But I've never had a problem with mine (no brake), so I'm not sure.

Maybe some info here: http://zvis.com/dep/depfaq.shtml

It's usually a stove pipe scenario, the chamber closes and catches the spent cartridge. The gun is very clean but i guess it could be a gas issue.

I know those recoil spring needs to be changed frequently. How many rounds have been fired through the DE?

Maybe 1000 rds, the gun is about 10yrs old though so its a possibility.

Taz. I have a de .50 also and mine was shot a few times and stuffed in a safe. When i bought it the gun wouldnt cycle all the time. I couldnt figure it out. I finally listened to a few people and bought the spring kit for it. Installed the kit and 400 rounds later not ONE misfeed or cycle issue. The brake you have will not affect cycling at all.

I would be willing to bet a round its the springs. When you take yours apart and go to install the new ones, you will notice an almost 2 inch difference in the spring heights.
