552 Remington manufactured date

I recently purchased a 552 Remington the stamping on the barrel XA dates it Dec. 1954 is this correct.

Remington's 552 Speedmaster was introduced in 1957, so a 1954 manufacture date would be incorrect.

This rifle has a plain stock, dovetail front sight with a silver bead,the rear sight is adjustable but it is not the usual rear sight seen on the the 552. I've looked the stamping over real close. I guess it is just stamped wrong, I have a couple of other 552, that's why I wondered if this an early production.

that Remington started using the alphabet over again in 1980. So my rifle was made Dec. of 1980. Thanks Again
