forget the 64,65 is better,38/357

Ummm... model 65 is better because it can shoot .357? period? that's it?

I mean, if I had a choice between a 64 and a 65, I'd probably grab the 65 and for exactly the same reason you mentioned. But the model 64 has a whole heck of a lot going for it.
-Price. The guns can be had online for $260-270. To step up to a 65 means spending an extra ~$150. For a new shooter (or any shooter for that matter), that's a lot of ammo money!
-Cleaning- nice not to have to think about cleaning out the chamber rings in the cylinder after switching from .38 to .357. One less potential reliability issue.
-Accuracy- some say that a dedicated .38spl is more accurate than a .357mag shooting .38's because there is less freebore. I have never experienced this to be true, but i'm probably not a good enough shot to be able to tell the difference.
-Just 'cuz- Yeah. That's right. Just because it's a classic cool gun that can still hold its own among service pistols even if it is only a .38spl.

I bought 3 of the Robertson Trading Post model 64s. They are exactly as described in their ads for each one.

I chose to spend the extra $10 or $20 and got the $289.00 64-5s made in 1994. They only charged $10 for shippng. I ordered 2 at one time and the shipping total was $10.

I gave one to my daughter and one to my son for HD. They do not go to the range often enough to try to be proficient with a semi-auto.

I would(and did) choose the 64 over any semi for a first time shooter who wants something that is trouble free and goes bang with each trigger pull.
