The 6.5 Grendel and 260 Remington seem like they would make a perfect pair in an AR and a Bolt Action.

They would both have good long range capability and incredible ballistic coefficients for their size, all with low recoil.

The Hornady 123gr A-max could be loaded to 2500fps in a Grendel AR, and to 2950fps in a Bolt Action 260 Rem for long range accuracy. (That bullet has a ballistic coefficient of .510)

The Hornady 120gr GMX could be loaded to the same velocities as above for hunting in both rifles, and if more penetration is needed, the 260 Remington can also push a 140gr SST bullet at 2700fps. (With a bc of .520)

Now, I just need each of you to go purchase one of each so the ammo and brass for these becomes more common. Thanks for your cooperation.

As much as Americans love the 243 Winchester, I don't understand why the 6.5 caliber has not become more popular with the hunting crowd. It has really caught on in long range shooting competitions, but hasn't made the leap over to the general market. It has better penetration than the 234, and barrel life is better. The recoil is still a non-issue, and most 6.5 cartridges are inherently accurate. Whats not to like?

That won't help in this market.

123gr @ 2500fps in an AR is pretty impressive to me. Has anyone necked a Grendel down to 6mm? I wonder how fast one would sling a ~105gr / 6mm bullet?

why not get a 6.5 creedmoor in both?
the creedmore and the 260 are like coke and pepsi almost exactly the same. The 308 case to me is the greatest designed case ever and every round that was spun off of it is the best in its class. actually the 243 again a 308 case with those dtac bullets 115 grain @ .585 BC shoot flatter then all of the rest mentioned here

I would guess that you would be somewhere between a 6mmPPC and a 6mm Benchrest Remington at that point. Probably push a 80 grain bullet to 2900fps.

I have both of those chambers, plus a Creedmoor and a 6.5 Remington Magnum. Am working on getting a 6.5 pistol. You may see a pattern. I'm pretty sure I need intervention...

260 and Creedmoor both require the AR10 platform and my understanding is the Creedmoor feeds somewhat better in an semi-auto but as I look at the brass I'd be hard pressed to agree as they are very similar. My 260 and Rem Mag are both old Mausers.

BTW, I also have a 6mm based on the Grendel. Got it from the 6mmAR site. Very, very accurate. 4 out of 5 shots will touch which is good for me as I shoot off a front sandbag only.
