I've looked closer at the bca uppers. How is the quality? It's hard to believe a complete upper with a stainless barrel for just over $200!
Good, to very good when one considers the cost.

What you USUALLY get, is a fully functional upper thats good but not fantastic in finish work. Watch for sharp edges. IMO these sell for about what a decent upper SHOULD cost. Your not buying name, or nice, your buying working.

Both of mine are fully functional (the .350 even feeds XTPs) and actually as well finished as any ive seen in the price range or a bit more. Accuracy with decent ammo has been very good.

I bought this on gunbroker from dealer in Wyoming. He had a selection of different engravings on the Spikes lowers. He called me and asked which I wanted. Great guy. Name is Dave. Price was right.
I just installed the Giessele SSA trigger. Best trigger ever.

I ended up actually ordering a bca upper tonight. After a lot of reading I decided that the bca with a 20" barrel was the best option for what I'm going to use it for (hunting). I'm still unsure what lower to go with. The psa looks to be a good value, the spikes look to be good quality, but it might be fun to buy a custom engraved stripped lower and put it together from scratch. But is there a good and a bad with the stripped lowers?

This is my first ar build so I'm still learning. My upper is a 20" barrel with a rifle length gas system. Do I have have a rifle length buffer tube and stock too, or would a complete lower for a carbine work?

Very interested in seeing your completed build. Which psa lower are you planning on going with?
And as a note you may want to go with a rifle stock over a collapsible unless your likely to need the adjustability (cold weather gear etc). I found that a sloppy upper really dosent hurt my groups, but I can almost always shoot a fixed at stock better than a collapsible. Also adding some weight to the rear may help, as the BCAs come with a fairly heavy barrel profile, and while it will make the whole gun heavier, it will make it less muzzle heavy.

I couldn't decide between the boarhunter-15 or the deerhunter-15, so I think when they come back in stock I am going to have my ffl order one of each and keep the other for a future build. I have been toying around putting together a 450 bushmaster with my Christmas bonus when it comes. As far as stocks I am looking closely into both options (here mi Michigan sometimes a bit of heavy outerwear is needed during late season hunts)

I ordered and received an Aero Precision lower. Also ordered a Larue 18" 6.5 Grendel upper but it's still in the making. I think they said 2 to 4 months. I hope it's worth it. I have a Leupold scope waiting for it. I'm hoping this will be a decent rifle. I don't consider this "building an AR" since I am just putting a few parts together. Maybe I will build one after I get more familiar with them.

Looks good and congratulations on getting parts in this day and age!

If I could change 1 part on other people’s ARs that IMO makes a big difference for the money spent, it would be the pistol grip. For $20-$25 a Magpul K2+ is as ergonomic as it is “tactical”. Using a different angle it also IME creates the illusion of a lighter trigger thanks to the straight(er) back pull.

Still waiting on parts for my 5.56 pistol build.

Looks good. I have really enjoyed my grendel AR, and I hope you do too. Hopefully you can find ammo for it.
The shop I got the lower had a bunch of the hornady black so I grabbed a couple more boxes wile I was there. Thank you all for all the advice and help I'm hoping to use this new rifle to put some venison in the fridge this fall!

Sounds like a great rifle. I've heard nothing but good about LaRue so should be a quality ar! This time I also just assembled a complete lower with a complete upper and a couple of accessories, but I'm thinking of starting to look for pieces to start a full build. I have had the bug for a 450 bushmaster and was going to start saving for a ruger American ranch, but I might order another complete upper and maybe build the lower myself this time.

I've shot 2 antelope and 3 pigs with my Grendel, and they have just dropped right there. I'm using the 123 sst.
