I recently completed the 6.5 Grendel upper I have been planning for a while, I gathered parts over the last few months and finally got everything in including the barrel which is a 24 in barrel with the 5R rifling. Overall I have between $750-$775 in the build itself including the go-no go gauges. I mounted the upper on a Colt A2 lower I have with a Timney trigger installed. I also ordered Hornady brass and Hornady 123 grain Amax bullets, I topped the upper with a BSA 4x12x42 mil-dot scope and started the sight in at 50 yards to get the scope roughly sighted in then moved the target to the 100 yard stand. I shot a 5 shot group from a led sled to check the rifle and ammo and the 5 shots were loaded at 1.5 grains above starting load, 4 shots of the 5 grouped within a half inch at the 100 yards and the 5th shot opened the group up to 1 inch. I am very pleased with the grouping and while still in load development I am hoping to close that up even tighter. The 5R rifling seems to be as good as advertised and cleans up really easy, it will hopefully get even better as it is shot a bit more. I will try different seating depths to see if that will help in closing the groups up if it is possible. I took two shots at 200 and 250 yards and hit dead center using the ballistics printout I took to the range with me to help adjust holdover for those distances. Looking forward to finding the best load for this new upper, then the whitetails beware!!
