I received my 6.5 Grendel, a 24" overwatch, upper last week and made my first trip to the range yesterday, thought you all might be interested. I scoped the upper with a Leupold 6-18x40, loaded up some simple starting loads, Sierra 120 HPBTs and Nosler 120s, and headed out to 200 yards to sight in. Took two shots into the dirt berm to see where I was, third onto the paper, fourth in the 8 ring. Never again shot outside the 8 ring in the 1st 20 shots. Not bad for what constitutes "barrel break-in" The 8 ring on my target is basically 2MOA, so 2MOA with a 17 shot group.
Again, new upper, 1st load, my first time in the cockpit with this equipment.
I had also set up targets at the 300 yard range, so I moved over, put nine clicks on the scope, 1st shot in the 9 ring. Proceeded to shoot the other 9 Sierras and the 20 Noslers, never again outside of the 8 ring.
My last group, 5 shots, was slighlty less than MOA. 50 rounds down the pipe, 1st load, first time out, THIS THING WILL SHOOT....
As far a functioning, perfect. I purchased 3 10 round magazines and used a DPMS lower. I loaded each magazine with multiple rounds and the rifle functioned perfectly with all three mags, each time with a differing number of rounds.
I just can't wait to actually work up some good loads, with some better bullets, and really see what this thing can do. I will keep you updated...
Good shooting!!!
