6.5 PRC is my new favorite caliber and will probably replace my beloved 270 Winchester...

I would like to get some money to pay off debt first then I can worry about a second rifle lol.
For a long time I carried more debt than I should while having multiple firearms I never used. Looking back, I paid a LOT of interest on the debt to hang onto stuff I wasn’t using. It was a foolish situation to be in, but probably 90% of Americans do the same thing. Once you get out of debt and quit having your paycheck divided up between lenders you’ll find out you can afford a lot of things and pay cash.

Both, I guess? like I don't just like walnut and blue steel, I have an SBR quad rail 10.5 5.56 with a Fostech Echo II trigger and a Surefire M952V-TN! It's stupid fun going out to bfe and blasting 5.56 Ball downrange.
I definitely like collecting cool guns but I have a problem with buying a bunch of stuff and then I'm like well crap now I'm stuck with this stuff... Cause seems like nobody wants to give a fair offer on stuff I try to sell at gun shows with dad. We have an FFL BTW.

Yeah, a person can be both to some degree.

I voted keep it and also get a new gun.

There's a season and a reason for everything. If you don't need the money from the .270 to enable buying something else, then what's it hurting?

Personally, I have enough kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, Sil's, etc. to be able to disperse my collection with no problem.
I already have a list in mind of who gets what.
I never owned a .270 until this year. But I've been reloading .270 for some time for friends and relatives. I finally bought a nice A-bolt and I really like it. Probably going to take some deer with it this fall.
It has no sentimental value to me at all. I could sell it tomorrow and never miss it.
If a grandson or granddaughter shoots or hunts with it someday, it may end up being special to them.
So, unless a need to sell it arises, it will stay in my safe and get played with now and then until I give it away.

I caught myself about 10yrs ago doing this. I had a business in my 20’s, then liquidated a couple hundred personal firearms with my store inventory when I closed up, but then realized that I had retained and re-accumulated way too many within a few years later. I was building or buying new cartridges to do one thing or another, so I had ONE OR TWO memories on more than a dozen rifles, instead of a dozen memories on one or two rifles. It was pretty hard to liquidate nostalgia, but it was more frustrating to keep so much inventory of rifles from which I just didn’t get much utility. So I did liquidate a bunch, again, and I have multiple rifles with multiple barrels and multiple uppers now - fewer rifles than before.

But I still have a handful of golden oldies I just can’t bring myself to sell, but can’t bring myself to use either.

What one will do - the other will do.

Like the older cartridge, heavy bullets, and the rifles chambered for it.

Starting from scratch? Who knows.

The old Mauser my dad gave me shall remain mine even if it won’t shoot. Lol. (Not the case at all. Very accurate for a sporterized rifle of the era: meaning moa)… I totally get what you’re saying!

I'm certainly in favor of thinning the herd of stuff I don't use. But it sounds like you only have the 2 rifles. I agree the 6.5 is the better cartridge and I might sell the 270 at some point. But for now I'd keep it. I'm in the "Two is one, one is none" train of thought. I like having a spare.

Who knows what will happen in the future. There are people out there with odd-ball chamberings that haven't been able to find ammo for their gun in years. Or have to pay $100 for a box of 35 Rem.

Well I have quite a few rifles actually. Let's see, 5.56 SBR M4orgery, 25-06 bolt gun, 6.5 PRC bolt gun, 270 bolt gun, M1 Garand 30-06, Remington 870 12ga fully rifled barrel, 1911 45 Auto Springfield mil-spec with Nighthawk threaded barrel, and Pietta SAA 45 Colt revolver. Also have a 308 AR that's basically collecting dust since my stockpile of 308 brass is jacked up cause my dies were jacked up. That's a story for another day though. So I'm not exactly short on rifles/guns lol.

I understand the quandary.

I have a Savage 114 (maybe it's a 116?) in .30-06. Nice wood, blue steel, etc.
I purchased it in the early 90s - pre AccuTrigger - that hasn't been fired in at least ten years. I have no plans of using it, at least in the current chambering.

But, it's the first new rifle I ever owned. I carried it deer hunting for several years. I can't bring myself to sell it. And, it's really not worth all that much.

Maybe I'll rebarrel it in 6.5x55 Swede.

If you don't rebarrel it and decide to sell, let us know. I like savage rifles.
Edit to add: rebarrel it to the Swede and have some fun with it though, that's the right answer...
