6.5 PRC would you get one to hunt with?

No snark at all.

Worst case, if my ammo had gone missing on the more exotic hunts, the PH has a rifle for use. Then again, I do usually make my own life easier and either pre-ship or proxy my importation to make sure things get where they’re going.

Domestic flights with firearms, whether for hunting or competition, or simply taking my carry pistol on business trips some 20-30wks per year for the last 15yrs+, I’ve never even heard of anything going missing.

If the topic of this thread is specifically PG hunting overseas, maybe I missed that fact. I would advise against a 6.5 PRC as a PG rifle in general, for far different reasons than simply the risk of ammunition being lost in transit. But we see this “don’t shoot anything unique in case your ammo gets lost” recommendation all over, except among folks who do it on a regular basis.

It’s not bad advice, but Moses didn’t carry it down the side of Sinai on a rock.

The only issues I see with the 6.5 PRC are rifle availability and only one brass source. There's one rifle on Gunbroker I would consider.

In terms of performance the gap to the 6.5 WSM/6.5 RSAUM/.264WM is going to be small. You might lose one node, but you might not.

I don't see the ELD-X as being a useful elk bullet, so the factory ammo would not be useful to me. For other people with hog, deer, antelope, sheep and goat opportunities it would probably look better.

I’ve taken firearms internationally 5 different times for hunts. This benefit is ridiculously exaggerated online.
Agreed. If you're worried about stuff disappearing in travel, you also have to plan for the gun disappearing in which case it won't matter what cartridge it's chambered in.

The downside of a non-standard chambering is that you use your lost gun plan for lost ammo too. That's it.
