I have a semi-soft spot for stuff (currently) off-beat. Subject is a Ruger M77 in 6.5 Remington Magnum. I'm a big fan of .25-6.5's but really have little (ok, no) use for the rifle/ caliber; it just kind of tweaked the "neat" bone. I also really don't need another caliber to reload. That said, it may (help) stave off the itch to pursue assembly of a Mauser-action .250 Savage...

Any feedback (notably on the cartridge)?

Thanks...Funnel

I remember when Remington introduced the model 600 with its numerous chamberings. The 6.5MAG was supposed to beat the 270 in a lightweight carbine package.

If you're building a .250 Savage anyway, you might as well make it an AI.

That extra bit of oomph will make a lot of difference.

Remington recently made a run of them in them in a version of the Model 7. I never saw one in a shop but saw several on GunBroker.com

I have a Rem. Mod-7 in .260Rem. It's a nice little rifle, accurate and kills deer all out of proportion to the muzzle blast, recoil and size of the round...
To the point that it's like the .30/06.
It becomes boring.... in a good way.

I have a Mauser with 6.5 Rem Mag chambering. Has a 24 or 25" stainless barrel with muzzlebrake. It's a 1 MOA rifle on it's best day. Could be the barrel, the action, the load or the shooter. No telling how many rounds have been down the barrel, but it's probably in the high 3 digits so the barrel is probably showing it's age. Someone told me my groups indicate the need for a new barrel but I can't say one way or another. Easily good enough for a deer though. With the brake there's hardly any kick but it's best not to be next to it as the muzzle blast is formidable. I shoot 120 grain BT's with it. Heavier bullets take away case capacity so 120's are the standard. This was my first centerfire rifle so I have a soft spot for it.

Brass is readily available. Every gun show I attend has once-fired or new brass. Believe it or not Remington ammo is usually available.

Logic says the 6.5x284 would be the way to go now. Everything's easier to get plus you do better with heavier bullets. I'll stick with the magnum as it's very unique.

Thanks folks, good cross-section of feedback. Evidence that sifting through used rifle racks can put you in a quandary indeed.

$699 - had a variable Leupold mounted. Sure didn't appear very recent but I'm not overly familiar with the M77's. I should get a chance to swing back by tomorrow or Wed.

I own a Remington 667 in 6.5 Mag. and it is one of my favorite rifles, does the job on whitetails and I am always getting looks and "What in the world is that rifle you're carrying?"

Great round. I have killed a 215 lb. boar hog with one shot with mine. BANG!! FLOP!!
