6.5 vs 308 for a rebarrel

eabco has this barrel kit from shaw in 260 remington. It's probably thinner than my current barrel, but a little extra free floating wouldn't be a big deal I suppose. midway has the same kit in 7mm-08. My big concern would be is there enought meat to the barrel if I chopped it to 20 or 22" to have it threaded 1/2x28 for a suppressor. they advertise .57" at the muzzle at 24"

I found a guy who claims he has all the parts and know-how to convert my old style bolt to a new style for 60-100 bucks, depending on what he can salvage out of my bolt. http://www.savagegunsmithing.com/ I talked to him a while, nice guy, super knowledgeable.

If your receiver is a Remmington, consider having the RemAge conversion done, you can then buy pre-cut barrels and install them yourself with a Savage barrel wrench ... Save a bit of money and a bunch of time and cut out the gun smithing for installing the barrels!

I've got 2 Remington VSSF's; one in 223 and the other in 308 ... I'm considering doing the RemAge conversion to the 308 and getting a 223 barrel with a 1/9 or 1/7 twist and selling the 223 to fund the venture because I didn't do enough research before I bought it ... It has a 1/10 twist and doesn't shoot my 69 & 77 grain Sierra's well ...
I'm thinking that if I do this I may also get a 300AAC barrel for it as well, of course I'll have to get a 223 bolt head or complete bolt ... Or I suppose I could keep the bolt and part out the barreled receiver & HS Precision stock trigger group ... Decisions decisions!

The RemAge conversion really appeals to me because I've got a SiG SSG 3000 which is a factory quick change barrel. It came in 308, but last year I bought a 6.5 Creedmoor from Benchmark, it's black-Stainless fluted and threaded 5/8x24 ... Turn-around was about 6 weeks but they told me it may be up to 12 weeks. I could have gone cheaper, with fewer options but I didn't want to.
