6.5 x 55 choice

I am thinking of getting a 6.5 x 55. My choices are down to a CZ or Tikka. What do you all think? What are the positives and negatives of each? Any other choices for the 6.5 caliber in that price range?

Saving up to get a CZ in 6.5x55. Myself, I like it better than the Tikka.

I already have a CZ527 and love it.

Two very different guns. Get the CZ if you're a traditionalist, like the warmth of wood and want maximum metal. Get the Tikka if appearance is less important and practical accuracy, slickness and weight are factors.

I'm a T3 lite stainless guy when it comes to stomping about in the bush. I'm a CZ guy when it comes to a nice full stock bolt action rimfire.

Either one will do the job. It's just a matter of your priorities.

a cz in the hand, is better than a t3 in the bush!!! Serioulsy, if you wanna go into the bush, I would grudgingly go with the tikka, if it was gonna be more rest, platform, stand shooting, go with the cz with the adjustable set trigger, SSOOOO shweet!

Forgive my ignorance, doesnt Sako own Tikka, arent they built pretty much to the same specs?

Beretta owns Sako, which acquired Tikka a few years back. Barrels are said to be manufactured on the same line, but the actions and stocks are not the same. The Tikka is made to sell at a lower price point, and Sako couldn't sell many rifles if they charged twice as much for the same product.

Still, although the T3 cuts some costs, it is a good usin' gun in its own right. It, like the CZ, offers more bang for the buck than your standard M700 or M70.

I've got a CZ in 6.5mm. Love it. With the right handloads it's a tack driver, and the set trigger is phenomonal. I've fondled a Tikka or two and they were fine rifles. But I'm a Mauser guy so I didn't even think about much else once I found out about the CZ's.

My choice is the ruger 77 , I just like it better. feels better, and to me looks better. shoot great too, My daughter took mine and has shot a fair number of deer with hers as well as a 'lope, Not on your list but just thought i would add, it is in the sane general price range.

I have the CZ in 6.5x55 and a Tikka is 270 WSM. Both are very fine rifles, but you should probably try to handle each one to see which you prefer. I seem to be more accurate with the Tikka, but the CZ is more fun to shoot and I love it's lack of plastic. If I was busting the brush I would leave both at home and take my Marlin 1894FG.

Actually, I don't think Beretta owns SAKO, but merely imports them to the US as their agent.

Beretta Holdings does own Sako,.....and Benelli, and Stoeger, and Umbertie[sp], and Burris, and Franchi, and Tikka. Probally a few more I can't remember......

Beretta is still a privately held company.....the same family since its founding in 1526.

I have a CZ, and just like it better. Both are very accurate. The CZ is heavier, and the stock on the American is a little thick. It can be worked into a very nice stock, and wood is generally very nice. The set trigger is a plus. The Tikka is lighter and has a very adjustable trigger. The magazine is detachable if that floats your boat. I have handled both, along with the Ruger. The Ruger felt best to me, with the CZ a close second. The stock of the Tikka just doesn't fit me well. If the Ruger had a decent trigger, I would vote it first. As it stands, the CZ is my choice. Just look at and handle all of them before choosing.

An awful choice for me. Neither. CZ doesn't import LHB 550's, and Tikka, although now importing LHB's, isn't offering them in 6.5 Swede.

I'm cringing & shuddering at the cost of rebarreling a new Tikka just to get a 6.5. I'm also cringing & shuddering at buying an MRC LHB barreled action in 6.5 & then completing the project.

Or, does anybody know of a source for a Left Hand Bolt 6.5, this side of an insanityland E-ticket price?

Search around, there are some other writeups that cover this very well (and give tips on how to avoid some of the costly tools).
The beauty is that you only need get a Savage with the right bolt head and action length. 270, 280, 30-06 etc.
You can litterally swap barrel out at the range.
