6.5mm 120 gr Sierra Pro-Hunter no exit...

Shot this buck on Saturday about 40 - 45 yards from a tree-stand, it never took a step, but bullet never made an exit although it destroyed humerus ball end on the other side and I recovered copper jacket with a bit of lead on the inside of the shoulder blade 5" from where it crashed humerus.

Bullet I used was Sierra Pro-hunter which I shot from 26" 260 Rem barrel. Still puzzled what happened to the bullet and where is all that lead???

All that lead has fragged inside your deer. These bullets can go off like a small genade. I try to place those type bullets behind the front legs and you will not have the same explosive results. It is nice not to have trail deer ain't it.

I had a similar thing happen in this deer. 110gr Pro Hunter in 6.8 SPC. Bullet pulverized shoulder, then did the "golden bb" thing and bounced around the inside of the ribcage. No exit.

Few years back I used 130 gr Sierra Game King on about same size buck, I shot it from 270 WIN, that bullet made exit size of the quarter and that buck ran 100 yards and expired, doing some research I came up with idea that flat base bullets are more suited for close range hunting, so my bullet choice stopped at Pro-Hunter, they grouped very good loaded with 45 gr RL-17, going almost 3000 fps. In my case bullet entered on the right side, scratching 4th closer to 3rd rib

then it traveled through chest turning lungs to jelly and then hit shoulder-humerus junction and whatever was left of it traveled up, where I recovered it.

now the "Golden BB" there is something I would rather dismiss, there was second hole just 2.5" lower from were bullet made an entrance, I thought somehow it got punctured while I was dragging that buck through rough terrain, but now I think it was fragment of the bullet which ricocheted back-out.

Is that a real problem?? I have used NBT and sst bullets for 20 and 25 years and find as I get older it is nice not haveing to hunt up deer. Just have to pick shots better.

Standard cup and core bullets are meant to kill stuff, not pose for a photo shoot.

Its nice deadly bullet, deer never took another step, just thought it would completely penetrate, on the other hand dead is dead and no need to track it, but if I had to it would be nice to have complete penetration.

At what muzzle velocity do you think your long barreled .260 was getting? I just looked at a piture of the sierra bullet and I might try it in a 6.5x55. Have fun and bangaway.

This bullet was loaded on top of 45gr RL-17 going 3000 fps, since this is not a target bullet it did group less then 1/2"@100 yards.
