Does anyone know of a bolt action 6.5 Swede rifle made by a manufacturer known for accuracy in a short LOP with an attractive wood stock? What I am really looking for is a short LOP version of the Tikka T3 Hunter, for the same or lower price range. I find the CZ 550 unattractive and don't want one.

Thank you!

I like the short LOP because I throw on a LimbSaver and am small statured as well as want my wife and other family members to be able to comfortably handle this rifle.

Get a Tikka and have the stock shortened.
Or buy one of the old Kimber Swede Mauser conversions and trim the stock.
+1 hard to beat the Tikka 6.5x55 especially for a youth or female. The other option is to go with one of the newfangled 6.5s (260 or 6.5 Creedmore) in the Savage lightweight hunter, also a wood stock with a really cool spiral bolt. Or if you really wanted something one off you could convert any long action 110 into a 6.5x55 really easy, no gunsmithing required and you could keep the factory wood stock and trim it down if need be. My dad has a bad shoulder and I have been thinking of doing that exact conversion to his old 30-06 for some time now.

CZ quit making the 550 American over a year ago. Zastava makes an excellent wood stocked 6.5x55 and you could have the stock cut down. I think the a Remington 798 is the same rifle.

+1 on getting a T3 and just shortening the stock. Especially if you're already planning on adding a butt plate of your own. It will hardly be much more work than a walk around your garage to find a saw. If you've got the money and urge to pay a pro to do it, it will probably look even better once it's done.

6,5 x 55 is way cooler than .260 remington.

7mm-08 is also already available in youth stock rifles (presumably due to it being a short action) so I might look that route too. I will definitely think about cutting the stock on a T3 hunter.

Maybe a Ruger compact or old rem model 7. Kimber rifles have a short LOP. You could have a Ruger cut down by a gunsmith who would install a grind-to-fit pad.

The Tikka is an awesome shooting rifle. Only problem with the Tikka idea is that they have not imported the 6.5 in a few years and finding one for sale is a rarity.

Fella's;

I agree on finding another gun than the CZ550 in 6.5X55. The 550 is an excellent Mauser-actioned rifle, but it's heavy. Therefore not so good for kids or other small-statured people. The 550's are still readily available, haven't seen a 557 yet, go figure.

At one time, a few years ago, Winchester made a run of model 70's in 6.5 Swede, it's a featherweight too I think. Had the schnable forend anyway. Sweet gun, but the bolt's on the wrong side for me. Another very good gun/caliber that's hard to find is the Remington 788 in 6mm Remington. They can shoot! I'd bet that if you get serious about checking the Euro manufacturer's catalogs, you'll find more than a couple of very nice 6.5's to choose from. I'm thinking of Steyr, Mannlicher-Schonauer, Mauser, and so forth.

Yes. I have one. Its a Winchester M70 Featherweight. I hunted with it one season, killed a doe, lubed it up, and threw it in the safe. Its a beautiful gun.

I think Howa chambers for 6.5x55. I've seen the old Kimber conversions in for sale online.

Nothing aginst Howa as a whole but they have a bad reputation with 6.5x55, I have had Howa owners contact me about developing an accurate load for theirs and nothing works, they cannot find their lands I can only assume they have a crazy long throat.

I've got the Tikka T3 Hunter in 6.5x55. It's a wonderful rifle.

Buy one and shorten the stock or buy another stock. You can find a stock on the Tikka Forum.
