6.5x55mm vs. .270

I am not impressed with .277 bullets at all. There may be a million hunters out there carrying a .270 but I don't see any advantage of it over the .280 or 6.5x55. In fact, the only thing that the .270 does is shoot a little flatter than the .30-06.

And it shouldn't chamber in a non-6.5x55 chamber. You were only supposed to check to see if the bolt picked the cartridge out of the magazine and headed it towards the chamber.
Exactly, having never tried the 6.5x55mm in a .270Win. myself I didn't know if it would fully chamber (hence the warning not to attempt to fire it), but it makes perfect sense that it wouldn't (the base is a bit larger). It seems that it did exactly what it was supposed to...fit in the bolt head, push it towards into the mouth of the chamber (without binding anywhere), extract/eject properly. That is exactly the desired result!

I agree, the only thing that the .270Win. does better than the .280Rem. is availability of factory cartridges, in EVERY other way the .280Rem. beats the tar 'outta it (if loaded to its full potential; it is often downloaded for weaker actions). Even the little 'ole Swede is better in many respects, and it uses less powder to get there. :D
