Years ago I had a wonderfully accurate Swedish Mauser, which I had to sell :( . The Swedes made a fine rifle, but a good part of the accuracy was attributable to the 6.5 X 55 ammo. Today, that same Swede is three times the cost, and surplus ammo doesn't exist-making shooting a bit expensive (yes, I know I could always reload, and I will when I have the time and the space :p ).

But the new 6.8 is getting great reviews, and supplies and stocks look as if they are multiplying. Does anyone know of a Mauser platform having been used for the caliber, or if there are inherent problems with using that caliber through a Mauser action?

Well if a dude can make himself an SU16 chambered in 6.8spc, then I am pretty sure ya can do it with a Mauser...Ahh at least that is what I am telling myself :p

The high-quality, Mauser-type, .223-length CZ 527 action will accommodate rounds similar to the 6.8mm Rem SPC. With a nonrotating extractor, the action provides controlled feed with a detachable magazine of single-column design that doesn't release the round until it is partially chambered. The CZ has a totally positive thumb safety with integral scope bases. Like most true Mauser actions, it is very smooth and has an excellent adjustable trigger.

I don't know about you, but I've never seen a box of 6.8 ammo anywhere, but can walk into about half of the gunshops in my area and buy 6.5 swede.

The 6.8 Rem was designed to work within the magazine limits of the M16. I don't see why you would want to take a bolt gun and neuter it to that standard if you only want a 6.5 cal rifle? You could look at 7mm 08 or 260 Rem and come pretty close bore diameter wise and a lot more pep velocity wise. Both the aforementioned are necked down 308 cases, iirc. YMMV

Thanks for the info-I'll look at some other setup.

FWIW, I've seen 6.8 in a few gun stores here in California, believe it or not!
