I have just got a 3" smith 625 "model of 1989". The loaded moon clips are binding up the rotation with every ammo except Hornady. My moons and other ammo work fine in my new smith 625 4" so I do not believe it is a clip or ammo problem. Any suggestions? My moons are made by Wilson.
Is my 3" just alot tighter and need thinner moons? The RIMZ plastic moons will also work in the 4" but I can not even close the cylinder on the 3" with the RIMZ.
Any different moons out there that may be thinner?

Running a Lewis lead remover through the cylinder, would probably solve your problem. You can sometimes get a build up of crud in the cylinder, that you can't see with your eye. Sometimes a brush just can't cut it, and you need to use the Lewis!

Also make sure the ejector rod is tight.:)

If you want to thin your moonclips, just rub them on a piece of wet dry paper laid on a flat bench top. They aren't bent, right?

Is your ammo re-loaded? If the brass been shot in an auto previously, the rims could have some extractor "bumps" on it.

Sorta sounds like the head space may be on the tight side on the 3". Should be around .006 between the case head and the recoil shield. If you have the barrel to cylinder gap to spare, a Ron Power yoke washer may help. Otherwise the yoke barrel may need faced to adjust headspace.

Good Luck....

625 binding!!!

I've had this same problem once in a while my self. Something to look at is look under the ejecter star for a unburned flake of powder. Some times thats all it takes to bind things up. Wash it out and check to see if that helps. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. All of these problems have been with factory ammo. No reloads as of yet. Ejector rod is tight.
Where can I order a Ron power yoke washer from?

There is a difference in the M25's and early M625's extractors and the later M625's extractors. If you look on the Rimz website you will see they now sell 2 different sizes so you don't have to adjust them like was done when they first came out.
Most Wilson's are made for the new M625s used in competition. Try the plain old generic style made for years for the M25 and your problems will most likely go away.

The RIMZ probably need to be modified for the 3" as it has a different shape extractor. If you have excessive end shake it may be the problem but not likely. My guess is same as SHOOTER 973 with unburned powder or the breech face may be dirty.

If you want to try moon clips from Ranch products, send me your address and I will send you 2 with fired brass in them. See how they fit. I have about 200 moon clips and don't mind sending you 2 to try. Ranch sells them for about $25 per hundred.
