looking for a holster for my 6" 629. Don't know what the style is called but I want a leather holster that has a leather strap that folds over the back of the hammer and snaps onto the side of the holster. Not talking about a thumb break. I'm talking about the classic holster everybody used to make. It really was the only holster you ever saw for revolvers in the old days. I had a Bianchi for my model 27 like this one. Wish I had a pic, but like I said I can't find one.

I think you are describing what is called a "Tom Threeperson" hoslter. He was a well-known Texas lawman back in the teens/20s, and popularized the holter. El Paso saddlery makes them, as do other custom makers. Check out El paso Saddlery's web site and you'll find them. is this what you mean?

Personally, I like them, too. They are elegant and functional, as well as classic looking.

Thanks Oro, that's pretty much it. Lots of makers did produce similar holsters without the long tag end going past the button. I had a Bianchi like this for my model 27. do you know if bianchi or galco still make them? I can't find it on Bianchi's website but I wonder if they still have them but don't catalog them?

If Galco or Bianchi still made them, they would be in the catalog.

EL Paso Saddelry will make the strap however long you want it past the snap.
Or just cut it off yourself.

It actually serves a purpose though.
It gives you a handle to get hold of when you want access to the gun in a hurry. Also something to pull on when snapping it down.
