Open trigger holster for hunting

When hunting with one of my revolvers, I usually use a Galco SAO which has a covered trigger. Stock photo.

But, I also have a couple of Triple K holsters that have an open trigger. While this gun is my SA Blackhawk, I also have one for my DA/SA GP100. Never felt the open trigger was an issue.

We do but the problem is that we also encounter a lot of folks who have heart palpitations and throw a fit when they see a holster with an exposed trigger.

Carry 1911 Condition One, open trigger and no strap. The perpetually offended will always find something.

I don't see how it's even possible to build a leather holster for a revolver that prevents the gun from falling out if inverted but is loose enough around the cylinder to allow it to rotate

Because they dont squeeze the sides of the cylinder. The cylinder pops down in the hole that's molded for it. Most of the contact is only at the rear of the cylinder. Id never tried to spin the cylinder in the holster because i really didn't care. Someone way above this post brought it up and I did so for their curiosity. In all 3 of my holsters it will in fact turn despite holding the gun securely. Obviously on two of the three the cylinder was spun via cocking the hammer since their triggers weren't exposed. The cyclone for the redhawk may not hold the big heavy gun in if you turned it completly upside down and gave it a jar anymore though. But the gun doesn't move in the holster either. Ive carried it for 20 years and the only wear on the bluing is the bottom front of the frame. The colt and n frames fit tight. The Anaconda fits so tight I had to make it go in the holster and let it sit several nights to loosen up. No amount of shaking would make it fall out.

And again, safety wasn't the concern I had. The da revolver pull is heavy enough and long enough to not concern me. On top of that you have the thumb snap that will not let anything move.

I did carry the open trigger holster on one hunt. I drew several times just trying it out. I still don't like it over the cyclone. It exposes more of the gun to the sticks and briar than the same holster with covered trigger and just didn't offer anything IMO. I don't have my finger in the trigger guard during the draw so I see absolutely no reason to have the guard and trigger exposed to trash and sticks and thorns or even the tree stands, ladders, seat belts etc etc

I do like the sight protector over the rear sight on the 5bhl though. That should be on the cyclone. Not sure why it isn't
