I am liking the new .38 spl. I sure wish S&W would have done a six shooter though!! Take that Ruger and the LCR :uhoh::eek:

S&W Model 73 (6 shot 38, 2" heavy barrel, blue finish, round butt frame), though it wasn't polymer. Very, very few are known to exist today. Like, you could count them all on one hand :p. They were based on the experimental "C" Frame, which slot between the J and K Frame in size. Basically, it was S&W's answer in the mid '70s to the Colt Detective Special.

Sad that they didn't go into full production. :(

Well I think that the smartcarry is kinda cool,
But if you have a full size 1911 or a 4 inch colt in your pants I think it may be hard to sit for a long time. A very good holster for a walk in the park, bad choice for the the office or car. I am fond of 1911,the comander is for the best of them all.
cocked and lock in my pants is not my cup of tea.
3 inch k frame, j frame and many of the smaller autos would work great but a 5 inch government or a 4 inch L frame. Thats a lot of meat and steal in your pants.
I think a DBO would be the only firearm to use in this carry mode.
And this is only my opinion.

Nem: very informative links. Thank you. I current use Fiocchi 148gr WC-HB for home defence because I’m very concerned about muzzle flash, noise, one handed follow up shots and wall penetration inside a house. Wad cutters seem to be the answer for me.

jt1: the new S&W Bodyguard 38 looks very cool to me, but the first thing that comes in my mind is: “Where is the lock?”. Because I’m sure THERE IS a lock somewhere…Anyway grips and cylinder release are very smart.
A no laser version will be also very appreciated because there are probably many folks that don’t want to spend extra money for a thing that they really don’t want.
Just my opinions.

Speaking about the S&W lock, I’ve just sold my 686+ because of it. Used the money to buy a brand new CZ 75D Compact (CZ P-01) for the father, so he gave me his (now mine ) Colt Government 380 MK IV Series ’80 .380ACP : not a bad deal…:D I’ll post some pics if you are interested to see the Beauty.

First post from a long time lurker. Great forum, extremely informative, and quite a bit friendlier than another forum I frequent.

I picked up a new 640-1, speed strips, some .38 special rounds for familiarization and practice, snap caps (I know but I am Old School), a box of 135 gr. Gold Dot SB, and an incredible rounded pocket holster just arrived from Mr. Mika which exceeded my already high expectations after reading his praises. All this due to intel garnered from this forum.

I have seen numerous posts regarding the Mika pocket holster but nothing on his waistband holster either with or without the thumb strap. Does anyone have experience with the waistband unit that is willing to share their experience?

Thanks in advance, sm7413

The only problem with the Mika IWB holster is the top is not reinforced, so reholstering can be difficult. I have a SideGuard IWB holster that works really well with my J frames. It has a reinforced top.

Well welcome and we will just have to turn that notion around!!:cuss:

Glad to have you here!!

To answer your OWB holster question I have a Blackhawk CQC just in case but never use it. Keep it around just in case. I just can't get over pocket carrying with the Mika.

Today I saw something though that interested me and was reasonably priced.

1-SL from Lobo.

I like the snap on/off idea. No direct experience but I think I may give one a try. I hear you haven't lived unless you die with a box of little used holsters.

AT EASE. Smokem if you Gottem.

Thank you all for your responses. DAdams I appreciate the welcome mat and the Lobo link, nice gear indeed. Your comment about the box of holsters is well taken.

Nem says....

Me likey all, but especially intrigued by the latter.

.22 mag. What's that about smoke'm if you got'em?

I agree with that .22 WMR; light and 7 rounds what the heck I would run to the store with that in my pocket. Could mistake it for the 340. :D

Damn, just what I need another diversion to contemplate. Guess I'll have to price out 22. Mag ammo.

Can't wait for them to show up at Buds!!

What's the MSRP? I need stimulus money.

At Ease.....lightem up ifins your'e so inclined.

2 1/2" barreled 642 is fixing something that isn't broke IMHO. Adds length and weight. The reason I carry the 642 is that it is short and light! If I want additional weight and barrel length I strap on a belt holster and my 640!

wjh

If I want additional weight and barrel length I strap on a belt holster and my 640!

Right on the mark.....here in TN where we can open carry I may as well strap on my 3 inch 686 CS-1 and go sportin in style.

I very much agree re barrel length on x42. It's short for a reason.

I also agree that I am pining for a 3" 686 for woods carry.

I tried a 4", but it was just too long for my taste.

I like my 3" 65, but I no longer feel comfortable using it for a steady diet of .357 mag.

That little new airweight .22 mag is also calling my name.

I agree as well. Once you start carrying IWB or OWB, you may as well go a bit bigger. You'd be surprised how easy it is (for some anyway) to carry concealed a S&W K Frame or Ruger Six Series revolver with a good belt and holster.

The x42 (and other airweights) truly excel as deep concealment guns, where space is often at an absolute premium. The 2.5" seems to defeat that original purpose IMHO, but to each their own.

Hey, I forgot you had a 3" 65. Very cool guns. 158 grain loads should be fine in your 65, assuming moderate useage. But if you are shooting thousands of 158s then I agree, you are probably better off with a purpose built 357 Magnum. If you found the 4" 686 to bulky, you might consider a 2.75", 3" or even 4" Ruger Six Series in addition to a 3" 686. They are in the same class strength wise with the 686, but they are less barrel heavy with their partial lug barrels. In fact, they handle a lot more like a S&W K Frame. They are priced more affordably as well. Something to consider, perhaps.

Since you own the very cool 3" .357 Model 65, here's a pic of my 3" Model 13 (a blued model 65):

^ Beautiful revolver, jad.

Good advice too, esp on the 158's. That makes sense.
Actually, I am considering adding a Ruger to the kit.

Speaking of my 65, I haven't posted this image here in a while.

Batman and Robin.

nematocyst.
I have a m65 in 3inch , round butt. if you are shooting factory 125 alot then you can run it to problems.
158 have run through my k frames by the truck load and there is no problems.
The 125 at high loads will cut through the frame in about 7,000 to 10,000 rounds.
if you reloading just keep your speed and pressures down, you and your m65 should have a long and happy life togather.

^ Thanks for that, Gordy. You and Jad are making me feel better about it.

Now, of course, DA will be along soon to remind me that I need to trade in my 642 on an M&P 340
so I can also have the option of shooting .357 mag in an airweight snub.

firing cycle question

When I pull the trigger there seems to be a delay in the firing cycle and I am wondering what would cause this. When I pull the trigger, the internal hammer cycles and the gun will click (I assume this is the bottoming of the firing pin) but there is a delay in the bullet firing that I have not experienced before. When I pull the trigger on my G17 the bullet firing is immediate. There is no delay.

I have read that there have been problems with some guns in the the firing pin does not extend far enough and as a result you will sometimes experience misfires. I did not have any misfires but I do have this delay.

Any ideas whats going on here?

Thanks

Handguns are such a personal thing I don't recommend anything to anyone, I share experiences, write commentary and sometimes even draw conclusions if they are beyone reproach......

Otherwise AT EASE. ;)

I agree with one thing you said though; I hear that .22 mag calling your name. :D

I still have Walther P99 AS in .40 calling mine.

speedstrips or speedloaders?

I am in the need of a fast reload,
Speedstrips hold five rounds and are flat in your pocket. easy to hide.
But by no means are they fast.
Speedloaders are bulky, but put all five in at once.
I now have 100 round through my 642 and never(even the first time when clean) has the spent shells hit the ground. One or two but never all five.
I have shot many rounds of compition with k and l frame S&W with as many as 4 reloads in a pass though and speedloaders are fast with practice.
I am new to speed strips and not to sure that the speed of a speedloader is going to happen.
So with that said,
I think the speedloaders are faster.
how about you all?

Boatman, there are five things that come in my mind:
1)defective ammunitions (powder or primers);
2)too short firing pin;
3)excessive cylinder endshake (back-forward play);
4)weak mainspring;
5)internal frictions that slow down the hammer during its fall.
Hope this helps.
