642 Club Part Deux

Nem/All - I really don't have any preconceived notions of what the "x42-pedia" should look or feel like. The index was originally posted by Glockman and expanded by DA. It looks like Jad is off to a good start with the cleaning/lube posts. What we need is an editor or a committee with a vision for this project, any volunteers? I think maybe it should be somewhat technical to a degree, but in keeping with the general feel of the club. As far as submitting the data, I think it should be here in the open for comment and review/revision and general approval. This looks like a long term project, and not necessarily a static one, once we get a basic document compiled we can continue to update and expand it. A good example is Harpo's "Shopping for a new 642 - what to watch out for" suggested category addition, I will second this addition. It may seem like a daunting project but if we just take one subject (I agree with your definitions) at a time we can get it done.

Jad - pimp-tastic? :D perhaps we need a 642 club daffynitions section in the "x42-pedia".

duallydave, Sod Welcome to both of you. We are happy to have you in the 642 Club.

duallydave - I'm with you. I've been to Seattle many times, I would never consider being there unarmed :scrutiny:

sod - That is a good deal, hope it's as good as it looks. Are you any relation to our other member - S.O.D.?

jad0110....Many thanks for the cleaning/lube tips. The last time I fired a handgun was when I was in the service...some 40+ years ago...and it was a 45 cal. semi-auto. I'm brand new to revolvers, and your suggestions are much appreciated. I'm off to the range for the first time today, and am truly looking forward to the experience.

Just recently returned from the TargetMaster indoor range where I fired my new 642. Keep in mind that I have not fired a sidearm in over 40 years. Using a small silhoutte target which depicted the head and center mass, I had some fairly tight groupings. Out of 50 round fired (half at 5 yards and half at 7 yards), none were out of center mass and 3 out of 25 were just outside the head area...all those being fired at a distance of 7 yards. All in all, I'm fairly pleased. I did learn one thing....I need to do something to make the front and rear sights more visible...particularly in dim light. The silhoutte was orange in color, and I found myself having to move the 642 left or right outside the target to line up the sights for correct elevation, then would move horizontally back on target before firing. Guess it's time to raide the wife's fingernail polish supply!

I've been working my way through the Original 642 pages and when I went there today they were gone. Does anyone know where they have moved to. I'd just like to finish.

To all,

I'm glad the cleaning/lubing tips have been of use; glad I could be of assistance.

jad, Excellent posts!

I have incorporated them into the 642 Bok.

fiVe, I am truly honored to have my words immortalized in the 642 BOK / 642 Hall of Fame !

And feel free to edit what I wrote to add additional tips others may have.

So lets have more cleaning / oiling tips!

---

jt1 and fiVe,

The organization for the 642 BOK makes perfect sense to me. I'll try to contribute info when I have time.

Here's one for now:

This link to Stephen Camp's website, HiPowers and Handguns, can go under the "grips" section. This is his excellent writeup title "Getting a Grip ... On J-Frames!"

Just got back from the range. Here's 10 rounds offhand at 50 feet, fairly rapid fire (about 7 seconds per 5 shots):

I love my Noisy Cricket! :D

<ahem>

Apologies if necessary for my frivolity last night,
especially taking up two whole posts just for fun. :scrutiny: :D

It was the end of the "regularly" scheduled work week for me.
(The work continues through the weekend, but at least the scheduling is more flexible.)

Anyway, I was kicking back, playing some music on the stereo,
and feeling a little giddy after pressure release from an intense work week.

Then, I saw all that empty bandwidth at 2 am, and ...
well, you know how it goes.

Anyway, as penance, I'm going to take on my own challenge from above about comparing/contrasting those snub revolvers: x42, M&P 340, 60 and 686. I'm interested in all of them and want to learn more about each. I'm still trying to sort out that "optimal" tool kit - tools that get the job done w/o having too many of them (necessary for me; ymmv).

Anyway, I'm going to work on a summary chart/table sort of thing comparing each of those: rnds, weight, size, sights, sight radius, grips, materials, msrp, "street" price (that is, at your local gun shop), etc.

May take some time. I'll also take a subject from the x42 wiki list ...
haven't decided which one(s) yet, but I'm leaning towards sights ...

Nem

G'19 and 308, good suggestions both.

I picked that limited set last night because those three are at the top of my list (for reasons I'll try to explain another time), but yes I'm also interested in 40 and 36 in comparison to x42, and 640 (and maybe 637) also deserve to be included. I'm thinking of keeping it SW for now. Could be expanded later to include Colts, Rugers, etc ...

I'll try to set up a table so that other snubs
can be added with data provided by others.
Then, we can collectively edit it as needed.

Return From the Midwest Blizzard

:eek:I had the misfortune in having to spend the last three days in Chicago.
I left Florida (where it was 72) it was -25 upon arrival. All for a 45 minute presentation (I stunnded the audience when I used a brush/scraper as a pointer for the .ppt) :D. Maybe next time CTs in that handgun unfriendly state would be more appropriate. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place in the summer, but a foot of snow and de-icing and snow in the boots. :barf:

Didn't have time to internet-up while there, and it is always great to come "home" to the X42 Club. Drinks are on me.

jt1- Call it a draw we shall.

Better we have this-

Than This!

Jad - pimp-tastic? perhaps we need a 642 club daffynitions section in the "x42-pedia".

jad I saw that before I left. :D That phrasology always cracks me.

So here you go...first I'll spell the word, then I will use it in a sentence....P-i-m-p-t-a-s-t-i-c....as in......

Welcome Sod, and nice shooting D.Don.

Welcome to duallydave. Another Washingtonian, and I alway thought it was all peace, love, Micro-Busses and rock & roll in Washington. I imagine your story will ring true to many of us, myself included. A thought....if the world weren't full of  we would not be here. "So Hoist a Glass of Tito's Handcrafted Texas Vodka to .
Fore Without it We Would Have Never Met." ;)

jad good job on the clean and lubing treatise. That definitely needs to go into the bok!

Harpo-Nice that you cleaned that 642 up for the photo. Looking good!
You didn't put Armorall on the grips did you? Did you? It's ok, to admit it, I did it on my introductory 686 Club Photo. :D

Nem-Congrats on the post count. Here's my conundrum. If I had a box of SGDFSB for everytime you told us how long you worked I would never have to buy .38s again. 6642 posts indeed. Where do you get that time bro? :neener:
I hit a mere trip sevens today....777.

Apologies if necessary for my frivolity last night,
especially taking up two whole posts just for fun.

It was the end of the "regularly" scheduled work week for me.
(The work continues through the weekend, but at least the scheduling is more flexible.)

Tonights my turn for frivolity. See he's working, working, working our mate Nem and he will be to 10K by the Fourth of July, mark my words.

http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/Short Look at Snubs.htm
A great snub article. Always worth putting this back up for posterity's sake.

Gotta go grab me another Tito's.

Just saw and bought a 940-1 at a nearby dealer, no box but it had three moon clips, and I already had a package of three I bought a couple of years ago in anticipation ....
Several reasons ... 9mm is by far less expensive to practice with, is a match for ammo with my Berettas and Lugers, which I buy ammo for more frequently, and the moon clips are faster to load and unload. I am thinking also it is marginally a better defense round than .38+P, and more controllable and comfortable than .357 ....
One question, is which is the best way to carry loaded moon clips ?

DA,

Glad to hear you had both a safe and successful trip albeit on the downright cold one.

"777" Very lucky, you should have gone to vegas.

Great Article. Thanks for the link.

Finally, Go NY. Don't want to see them break the Dolphin's record in a season where they cheated. I think the fine should have like college excluded them from the playoff's. JMHO.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday

6642 posts indeed. Where do you get that time bro?
DA, I'm able to put in 12 a day for 7 days month after month because I take regular breaks to check in here, read some good stuff about our little mule (and assorted other levers and wheels), divert my attention from work, refresh my mind, then go back to work.

Strategy, my boy, strategy. :D

And of course, I type at the speed of light.

DelawareDon, Harpo - Good shooting both of you, looks like we got a couple of pros with us here.

Alx - We will be needing a pic of that 940-1 for the record, as they are kind of rare around here. As for carry options, some of the custom makers have belt holders for them, when I used to carry for my Trooper MkIII I used a speed loader case and could fit two full clips in each pouch, but this was open carry so concealment was not an issue, maybe a cell phone case?
