I am looking at getting a S&W 686 Plus w/ 4 inch barrel. I am getting it for home defense and hiking. I am looking for a drop leg holster and really like the Blackhawk Serpa STRIKE combo, but I do not see they have a holster for revolvers? Does anyone know if Blackhawk makes a SERPA holster for the 686 plus, do other companies producer holster that fit the STRIKE drop leg holster, or does another company make a similar product?

I would rethink the drop-leg holster for hiking.

They will wear ya a new one flopping and rubbing blisters on your leg while walking very far.

A belt mounted pancake will carry easy all day.

I second rcmodel.

For the purposes of both the hike and home defense, a nice pancake holster is tops.

Comfortable, low profile, and just all around GREAT. I've a Simply Rugged Soursough Pancake for my Ruger GP100 and it keeps the gun snugged up to the waist. No juggling around, now getting in the way. With a good gun belt, it makes the gun 100% comfortable to carry all day.

Thank me later.

The backpack I would have for overnight hiking has waist straps to have the weight supported on the hips. This really does not allow me to have a hip holster.

Thank you for suggestion. was not even thinking of a chest holster. Didn't realize that existed. seems like that would work really well. I try some out.

Chest holsters are the hot set-up for guides, packers, and hunters up north.

Do a Google and you will find a lot of good designs.

Either chest holster or pack mounted holster. I pack mount mine on my stomach, left side with heavy cross draw cant. It leaves strong side more open to maneuver but gives me a nice presentation should I need it quick.
