so I have shot a few local matches including an idpa match and have had some fun. I have been using my Blackhawk SERPA and have recently discovered the bad reputation they have

I am confident of my abilities and i am well versed with the Serpa, but I want a new holster for at least two reasons.

First and foremost, I have begun to doubt the safety of the system after hearing half of the shooters at the competitions mention how they saw someone shoot them self in the leg

Second, I am tired of people telling me to not shoot myself in the leg

Now to what I want: a safe and easy to draw from holster with active retention, but I don’t want to spend $100+ on it like some of the Safariland ones

I do not need level III retention, level I is ok
What do you all recommend? If possible I would like the holster to work for my Glock 23 As well

I want active retention, I know most don’t use it but i don’t want to risk or worry about dropping a gun

Suggestions?

Safariland really is the place for active retention.

If I could convince you away from active retention, there are a lot of options. For instance, when you're at the local matches, what is everybody else using? Blade-Tech ( https://blade-tech.com ), Comp-Tac ( http://www.comp-tac.com ), Ready Tactical ( https://www.skdtac.com/Ready-Tactical-Holster-p/rdt.203.htm ), Daranich Tactical ( https://www.daranichtactical.com ), K-Rounds ( https://www.krounds.com ), Garrett Industries ( http://www.giholsters.com )? Chances are good they are using one of those or something produced locally. I suspect they aren't using active retention and are their guns dropping out of their holsters? I'd ask what the other guys are using and see if they'll let you try their gear.

Generally speaking a G35/G34 holster will work for all the shorter Glock's, G17/G19/G26 etc.

There are also leather thumb break duty holsters, but chances are good they are pretty pricey.

I can specifically recommend the Bladetech g35 holster. I recently got one in a purchase of a G35 and although I don't shoot competition, it is a very nice holster. Retention is great although not active and there is just about no way that the gun is leaving the holster unless you want it to.

I recently got a comp-tac international.
It doesn't have active retention but is very fast and secure.
I bought it for range games. It would also be a great ccw rig as long as you don't care if people see your pistol.

This is an old thread and I suspect the OP has probably already found his holster, but I'll quote myself in the event other's are looking for a holster for competition...
