I'm working up some loads for my newly aquired 700 in 6mm and my reloading manual doesn't have the bullets I'm using. I'm starting with 70 grain Nosler ballistic tip spitzers and IMR 4320. Does anyone have the starting grains and max grains for this bullet and powder? Thanks.
Nate

Hi. 6mm Remington, correct? My old Lyman book gives 38.5(3105fps, 40,300 CUP) to 44.0(3509fps, 52,000 CUP) of IMR4320 for a 70 grain jacketed bullet. Load for the bullet weight. Not the make and type of bullet.

My Rem 700BDL 6MM Rem Bushnell 3X9 scope

For my 70 gr bullets in my Hornaday 3rd edition 4320 gives 39.9 to 44.8grs.

For my weapon I personally use 4895 and have nailed dozens of coyotes on my ranch to protect my livestock and pets.

For what its worth....work up a load, that suits the barrel twist of your rifle.... forget YOUR choice of bullets, and go with what the barrel prefers.

I tried out some loads in my Remington 700 6mm yesterday.
These are Sierra's 85g BTHP, groups 1-5 are RE19 from 45-49 grains at one grain
increments. The last group is RE22.

Groups are CTC:
45 .83 first 3: .08
46 .516
47 .62 first 3 .147
48 .695 first 3: .148
49 1.091

RE22 .457"

Groups 2, 3 and 10 are encouraging and I will play with OAL and neck tension.
I also need to lighten my trigger up a bit.

Nasty;

My 6mm's a 788, but I've done some fairly extensive testing with the cartridge in that gun.

Tried 4320, 4350, 4064, N160, and H380. Tried both Remington & Winchester brass.

Used CCI 200 & 250 primers, the 250's for the H380.

Long story short, 75 gr Hornady V-Max, 46 gr IMR 4350, CCI 200, Rem brass, and OAL 2.825". THE major factor in my gun was the OAL. Brass made exceedingly minor differences in accuracy. Moly or non-moly bullets favored moly, slightly.

Tried using a hunting load with the 90 gr Speer & RL19. At 100 yards, it moved the POI about 1 foot up & 1 foot right. I didn't have the time to do a lot of comparison testing between the two loads, but given the limited experience with the two bullets, I'd say the 6mm is a fairly sensitive round to change. My experience with OAL amply confirms that.
