I'm headed to the 500 yard range tomorrow with my 308 and thought I'd bring the 6mm too. I just got these bullets and haven't had a chance to work up a load. I would like some suggestions for a standard accuracy load for the
Sierra 70 grain HPBT MatchKing.
I have a factory 6mm Remington 700BDL Varmint from the 70's or so.
Fed 210m or CCI large rifle primers.
IMR 4064, 4350,4895
BLC 2
W 760
Any help would be fabulous.
Any loads for the 105g AMAX would be great too.

Whoa! A bonafide 6mm Remington.

What kind of barrel twist do you have on that? You might not have enough to properly stabilize the 107gr bullets. I remember it has to be faster than 1 in 9inch twist.

I haven't used the Sierra Matchking... only the Nosler 70gr BallisticTip.
I've done 44.5grains of IMR4350, Winchester Large Primers, as well as 40.0grains of IMR4064.
I've tried the slower loads, but the faster ones gave better accuracy, IIRC.

I would load some starter loads, and see how the rifle likes it.

6mm Remingtion Loads

MCL,

When I loaded for my BDL in Remington 6mm, I've found that it shot well with just about anything. I loaded either a Hornady or Speer 100gr bullet over IMR4350, IMR4064 and IMR4320, and produced sub MOA ,5 shot groups off a bench rest. My rifle liked flat based bullets better then boat tails.

Your varmint barrel should do better. That's a light recoiling, flat shooting set up, no doubt the varmints in your area are trembling. Not a bad Whitetail round either, although that barrel might make it stand gun.

Hey Fro, try this on for size...

A good friend's parents have a matched set of Remington 760s that they bought new for hunting when they got married in the late 1950s.

Both are stamped .244 Remington. :)

Anyway, if it's a Remington from the 1970s, it's going to have a 1 in 9 twist barrel. That was standard from 1963, when it was introduced. I don't think that's changed on production guns, either.

The 6mm is a great little cartridge. Had Remington handled it properly when it came out, as Winchester did with the .243, it could have been a LOT more popular, instead of being an almost hit the big time.

In my limited experience with the cartridge any of the powders you mention should work well. IMR 4064 is usually an excellent first choice for cartridges in this capacity range. RL-15 or H4350 also come highly recommended.
