I am down to around 700 rounds of ammo for the Chinese SKS my dad brought me home from Viet Nam. I was about to order some plinking ammo from an online store when I noticed that Cabelas was selling 7.62 x 39 VMAX ammo. Just to see how well it would perform, I ordered 500 rounds. First Cabelas placed it on back order, and a week later they cancelled the order. Now my curiousity has got the best of me and I really want some of this stuff. Has anyone heard of this being available anywhere else? Thanks.

Never found it anywhere else other than Cabela's, but didn't look too much either. I picked up a few boxes and fired about a box of it. Nothing too impressive group-wise about the same as Wolf loads, but I'm sure the Vmax bullets are better for hunting light game than the FMJ or shallow HP stuff that Wolf makes. If anywhere else sells it I'd love to know as well.

krochus, that's one of the things that intrigued me about the round; almost everything I read on the Cabelas page was about how accurate they were. It looks like I may need to start hand-loading...

I loaded some I got from Grafs for shooting in my Mini30. they do better than the Win and Rem 123 gr pills and as good as Sierra btsp if not better a bit. they are .310 dia. wish Hornady would make 'em in 155 gr. wgt. better for deer and hogs - M30's a good bush gun for them.

Does anyone still make loaded ammo in 7.62x39mm using VMAX's?

I know Georgia Arms did at one time (110 gr?), but I don't know if they still do.

Wow, JrSpicer, you must have armored groundhogs wherever it is you are!

I've shot the 223's at prairie dogs out here in Colorado and if I connect, the dog explodes. Just the kind of performance you want from such a bullet. These bullets are very accurate.

I've shot Hornady 110 grain spire point bullets in a 308 and they seem to do pretty well.

Hope you can find you some and tell us how they work in the SKS.

+1 on that! Or throwing them at them by hand!

I use V-Max bullets almost exclusively for coyote hunting.
One-shot kills are always the result.
They and Nosler Ballistic-Tips are two of the most accurate & deadly varmint bullets you can buy.

They do, but they are called the InterBond, SST, or A-Max.

The V in V-Max stands for Varmint!
They are made to blow up on small varmints, not kill deer & hogs.

To everyone,

Thanks for the info. I moved a little too quick and ordered 1,000 rounds of Golden Tiger today. After looking at the link Bigfoot gave (thanks for that, Big Foot) as soon as I can save up the money I'll be getting some of those; it's a shame they're so expensive though :(
