I posted on this project a while ago and finally got around to actually purchasing the dies and JSPs to get the ball rolling.

I would like to use one of my M57s for use as a trail gun, primarily for protection from stray/wild dogs (we've seen a few on some of our hikes but managed so far not to attract their attention) or ne'er-do wells of the 2-legged variety and not necessarily bear. I am fed up waiting for JSP/JHP 7.62x25 to hit the shelves again, so I decided to make my own.
My intention was to pull some military surplus 7.62x25 FMJ (I have around 7K) and replace the FMJ bullet (that's kept for later reloads) with some commercial JSP.

Yesterday, I pulled 10 Yugoslavian FMJ with a kinetic puller, returned the powder to the case and seated/crimped a Sierra Sports Master 85gr JSP in its place. I have quite a few Romanian and Polish surplus as well, but it uses a different crimp.

Using wetpack (using old paperback novels), I fired one round to see if there would be expansion. There was expansion and the slug tore through the five novels and was recovered in a fabric box behind it. As a side note, I'm going back to play dough as wetpack is simply too messy to work with considering you only get a couple shots.

I don't know what 8" of wetpack equates to, but it tore completely through, completely destroying the last few books and still had the velocity to rip a few layers of cotton towels while completely expanded. The 7.62x25 is a zippy round!

This was done from a Yugoslavian M57. I didn't slug the bore but don't really think I need to as these Sierra slugs are .308 in diameter. There was only one shot fired, but from a range of about 12-15', the slug struck dead center. The next JSP reload chambered. Manual cycling indicates to me these will be perfectly feed reliable.

I'll test more later when time allows, which will include using my chronograph and accuracy testing. I just thought I'd share with you what I already have.

Powder, case and primer remains the same, only the bullet has been swapped out.

Well your approach seems to be fool-proof. I really enjoy and appreciate projects like these. I think loading these JSP will be a formidable cartridge against dogs! A nice selection especially when you have as many rounds as you say you own. I'd like to see what the crono says. Thanks for sharing, Snow.

Neat project. Just be sure to use the same weight bullet, or lighter.
I've used the same technique to make hunting rounds out of (brass) milsurp FMJs for my Mosin Nagant and Mauser, substituting a lighter SP bullet for the FMJ. Works great.

I didn't know anyone had made any jhp in Tok, but I haven't been following this round in awhile. From the reports I saw on the Wolf, it didn't seem that impressive. I'm surprised some company like Remington, Winchester or Federal doesn't load a factory jhp for this caliber yet as their are quite a lot of these guns around now and the demand for this seems to be high.
