It seems there isn't much 7.62X25 surplus ammo out there. Are the days of cheap 7.62X25 ammo over?

FWIW, I read there are mountains of AK 5.45mm ammo in Eastern Europe.

It unfortunately looks that way. Surplus 7.62x25 is getting so hard to find around here that I can't even find the ammo I know I have. Okay that may be a clue to organize better, lol.

I was pondering the same question last week, ruefully. I'm not optimistic that we'll any significant imports of surplus 7.62x25 again. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not sure how much is left out there to be imported in Poland, Serbia/Yugo, etc... Imports of that particular round from Russia are prohibited under a treaty with the U.S.

Yes, the days of inexpensive 7.62x25 surplus are over. Not only because there isn't enough to go around for cheap anymore, but also because everyone and their brother is looking for it.
When 1224 rounds of Polish 7.62x25 surplus would garnish a "meh" at $90 from most consumers, then it stays at $90 for a while. But if people are jumping all over it at $150, merchants usually price it where people begin saying "meh" again. It's Adam Smith's "invisible hand" of course.
Unfortunately, today's meh price is over $400, which is no longer "cheap" by most standards.

If a new source of 7.62x25 is found, I sincerely doubt it will be sold cheap regardless of the quantitiy discovered.

I think that ship has sailed to join the fleet including the SMS 8mm Mauser, to be followed by the Imperial Russian battleship 7.62x54R. Currently providing escort duty to the fleet is the USS .22LR.

It just bugs me that theres gotta be TONS of this stuff in Russia we dont have access too. Wouldn't you think though that there will may be some Romanian or polish stuff hiding in some warehouse in Europe waiting to be imported? There was so much of that stuff manufactured in the cold war days...

7.62x54R availability?

I think that ship has sailed to join the fleet including the SMS 8mm Mauser, to be followed by the Imperial Russian battleship 7.62x54R.

I thought about loading up on 7.62x54R, depending whether it will drop in availability/price in the near and intermediate future.

Anyone have any idea when the availability of 7.62x54R will go down and price up? This could be the time to grab that stuff.

I wonder if the case dates are a good clue. I've bought late 70s in the past but for the last several months, my LGS has all 70-71 dated cases. Hard to know who ships what from where and what is in the warehouses in Europe.

China used to be a huge source of inexpensive 7.62x25. At one point in the early 1990s you could get Chinese 7.62x25 for about 6 cents a round in quantity. Clinton put an end to that.

I still have a pretty good cache of 7.62x25 surplus, but when I've shot it all up, my 7.62x25 pistol will be for sale...

7.62x25 ammo

If you want a reliable supply of 7.62x25 ammo, your going to have to make it yourself.

That is precisely why I am loading up 150 cases of it this morning. I developed and tested a load that my heirs will be able to load long after I and my cache of cheap surplus are gone

762x25 Surplus

It is to me at least not worth the cost and inconvience to pay the asking price for the surplus. I bought my M 57 and then found that the surplus at low prices had dried up. I bought a few boxes of PPU factory 85 grain factory ammo before last years panic and also 500 new cases from Starline. I also got a set of Lee dies while they were still available.I ruined a few cases in my learning curve loading some trial loads.I have developed a good load using 90 grain XTP bullets and haven't looked back. It is not economical to shoot large amounts but that is OK for me. At least I can shoot it ocasionally. :fire:

There are now enough 7.62x25 pistols in civilian shooters hands that it will be economically feasable for the foreseeable future for manufacturers to make ammo for the civilian market, either imported or domestic.

But the days of really cheap military surplus 7.62x25 do appear to be over.

What kind of loader do you have? 150,000 rounds in a morning is VERY impressive output volume!

Man I am glad I bought a bunch of 7.62X25 over the last 15 years. I am close to a life time supply.:) Also stocked up on 7.62X39.:neener:

Sure am glad I got a 9mm barrel for my cz52 when they were available. It isn't quite the same as 7.62 Tok but it does let me enjoy the pistol without as much worry.

If my surplus dries up and there's nothing else to replace it with I'll probably sell the bundle too.

I know its not a bunch, but I am fortunate to have held on to over 950 rds of Romanian surplus. I will only be shooting Sellier and Bellot unless I run into some extra surplus or start reloading it.
Gotta keep that surplus on hand just in case..

I'd be curious to know how good the new manufacture 7.62 hollow-points are for defense.
