was scanning through my Midway and saw a Lee mold for .311 round nose and round nose flat point bullets that were 75 and 77 grain. I was thinking these would make a super defensive load for my 7.62x25mm CZ52. Pushing them in the 1700fps range im sure these if they were cast soft with a gas check would flatten out with quite a bit of energy transfer. Has anybody experimented with cast bullets for this caliber???

Yeah, I have. My best load consists of a 100 gr. Lee .311 over 7.5 gr. of Blue Dot. Bullet is sized to .308 and lubed with alox.

That load's safe in my '54 CZ and shows no pressure indications whatever.....chrono's about 1400 in my gun and leading is nearly non existant. Biggest problem with that cartridge/gun is brass recovery as it sure tosses 'em quite a distance.

Relative to accuracy, well its no problem to ring steel 1 ft. plates at a 100 and at about 15 yards it'l cut ragged holes.....it's a fun cartridge to fool with.

Forgot to mention that my bullets are straight wheelweights and quite hard.

have you ever fooled with lighter bullets. I was looking at some tables and saw energy started dropping with bullets over 85 grain. I was wondering about these lighter ones for increased velocity and energy, but If it works for you it may work for me. And I have a endless supply of wheel weights as I am a mechanic and cant give the stuff away.

Not lighter than mentioned with cast, but I have used a similar Blue Dot loading with Hornady's 90 gr XTP.......spectacular on impact & too destructive on edible small game tho.

By the way, what's the Lee cast bullet @ for that Midway offering?...........Curious as I have a .32 NAA that I'd like to try cb's in.
