I bought a new gun that shoots this cartridge and bought some ammo. The best price I can find on non-corrosive ammo is .25 per round. I reload for all my other guns. Why does no one/very few reload this cartridge? Brass cases are available as is brass cased ammo. I'm sure it can be reloaded for less than .25 per round.

I load these with 23.5gr of AA1680 and either 125gr SP or FMJ. Shoot them in an AK and 2 SKS's.

Not sure what you bought.... If it is an AK it may chew up the brass making it costly to reload.

If you've got a CZ bolt action or something commercial, go for it, IMO.

Aimsurplus has wolf and Golden Bear cheaper than that. I shoot the Yugo in all my com blocks and even in an AR 7.62x39 upper. I just clean my guns with windex and then lube with Breakfree CLP. No problems so far.

You just don't hear about reloads because you can get ammo very cheap.
Wolf/Tula can be cheaper than reloads if you have to buy the bullets.(not always, but usually)

If you cast your own, then it'll be cheaper to reload.

Why does no one/very few reload this cartridge?

The only gun I have that shoots the 7.62X39mm round is a cheap AK rifle. I bought a bunch of Russian ammo in bulk when the price was still $99/case. (1,000 rounds) The rifle isn't accurate so I personally see no reason to load for it. If I had a good bolt action rifle chambered in that caliber I would probably load for it but for the AK I have I just blow off ammo for fun.

BTW, ammo has come down a bit from the highs. Even though you will probably never see a $99 case again the prices have come down to $99/half case. That's 19 cents a round which is better than the 25 cents a round you are seeing. Right now Ammo-To-Go has 1260rds of Yugoslavian Military 123gr FMJ Ammo for $219.95 in stock. (17 cents a round) I'm sure there are other deals around the NET if you look hard enough.

That cheap Yugoslav stuff is corrosive. That's what I'm trying to avoid. Although it does come in brass cases. Would have to drill a flash hole. Too much hassle. How is 7.62x39 on brass? Can you get a lot of loadings per case?

I reload what I have fairly economically but I often discern over the loading costs of new components;

A box of 20, Boxer-primed X39 (Fiocci) costs about 10 bucks+s&h.

New Winchester Brass ($20 for 50) in .308 dia, primers ($4 for 100), # 7 and bullets are only a couple dollars less than new bullets, OK with me.

It seems good enough (for me) to buy the loaded Fiocci; either shoot em and reload em or just stack them up in cans for "the big one".

Lately, I've been having some luck going behind the two-step commandos and picking up their brass best deal for me as cost basis goes way down.

I do both, I like to load new stuff too.

I do and will reload for this one. However the cost to reload with all purchased components is much higher than buying the steel cased at the present time IMHO. For a serious, as accurate as the SKS will shoot round with a premium bullet I reload my own. I have 300 reloads in reserve, and about 6K steel cased in ammo cans.

I did up some loads I think were good for my mini30,mine was a .310dia. I didn't want to use the steel cases because of all the bad stories I've heard about it in the mini although lots of people use it without issue.

I load for the 7.62 x 39. I have a custom Mini-30 and an AR-15. Both will shoot sub MOA with quality bullets and handloads. Both will shoot 3-5 inch groups with cheap ammo.

What rifle did you buy?

I would guess I get approx 10 loadings per case, but I shoot cast bullets and use mild powder charges which is easy on the case. I do not actually keep a reloading count on the cases just sirmising the number.

I do keep track of loadings for my .223 bolt action and have now gone to over 90 reloads per case. Here again I'm using accurate loads which in my case happen to be mild. These are neck sized only.

Good shooting there DANNY-L nice group with the 150 gr. bullets. I've been reloading for my two SKS rifle now for about seven years as other have stated it's going to be hard to beat the cost of cheap Russian steel case ammo for general shooting purposes due to cost of components especially the bullet.

If reloading isn't an option due to cost of getting set up you can do yourself a great favor and get several boxes of different brands of X39 ammo and find which one shoots the most accurately in your rifle adjust the sights accordingly and stick with it.

I stocked up on lots of cheap components many years ago I can still load quality jacketed bullet ammo at the cheapest Russian ammo prices. I also started casting all my own bullets several years ago including the X39,my cast bullet load run me anywhere between 8 and 10 cents a rd. depending on the amount of powder I use.

I load and cast for that round, a fantastic NOE 129 grain mold.
Those who use Accurate Arms powders like me, check your data, they changed all the loads due to new testing, and 24 grains is no longer the standard - it's below minimum for some reason. I still use AA#1680, but also H4895 and H335, gives great accuracy in both my CZ 527M and vz-58.
