My uncle recently gave me about 120 rounds of military surplus 7.62x51 ammunition and I was curious as to the country of origin. The stamp says "7.62x51, O.F.N. 19.70", and there is a green sort of laquer surrounding the primers on some rounds. The last two numbers on the stamp vary, too (i.e. O.F.N. 19.70, 21.69, 19.69, etc.). Sadly, I have no digital camera with which to take pics, so please excuse the description.
A couple questions-
1) Any ideas as to the ammo's country of origin?
2) Would it be safe to assume that it's 147gr FMJ, and berdan primed (so I can't reload the brass)?
3) Would it make good practice ammo to run through my Savage 10FP .308?
Thanks for any info you guys can give me.
Take care,
Nic
