Cosmoline's got me all worked up about the Woodleigh 215 bullet and I want to try to make a moose load out of it. I'm using a Mosin Nagant m38 w/ 20" barrel. How fast do I have to get the Woodleigh traveling to take a moose at 100 yards? Moose can run to 1250 pounds around here.

Is there a general formula for necessary impact energy as a function of the animal's weight?

I didn't see this post until today, but in case you're still wondering the impact FPS on those Woodleighs should be abotu 1800-2200 fps, per the company. Given the spear-like sectional density of those bullets that's more than enough to blast through any moose on a broadside shot and would be more than sufficient to bring it down. My loads are actually running too hot inside of 100 yards, but would be good for impacts beyond that range out to about 250 yards.

Great info, Cosmo, many thanks. BTW, how far do you seat the Woodleigh? Or, what oal do you go far. I was worried about about it being either too close to the lands or too deep into the shoulder of the case, either of which would effect accuracy. Price is pretty high for this bullet so I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks again.
