Does anyone have good reloading data for the 1891 Argentine Mauser in 7.65 x 53? I have not been able to find any firm data on the powder company's websites. I recently acquired a beautiful 1891 original rifle manufactured in 1897. I have fired it with Privi Partisan ammo and found it to be very accurate so I would like to reload the brass as I already have the .311 diameter bullets for my 7.7 Jap and .303 Brit rifles. There was no reference in my Lee Manual to this round.

Data is everywhere.

Hornady reloading manuals list it under 7.65x53mm Belgian Mauser.

Lyman #49 has a chapter on 7.65 Argentine Mauser.

As does the Hodgdon manual & web site.

Thanks RC. Evidently I didn't dig deep enough. I found several sites that referenced information but when I tried the links they generally went nowhere or said they were expired. One wanted $29.95 to get the information.

It's a good round, and some of those old rifles are tack-drivers. It's in the .300 Savage/.308 Winchester power range, though it works at significantly lower pressures than those. In the warmest loadings, it is well within the "150grains at 2700 f/s" range which seems to be the gold standard for medium-game rifles.

I tried making cases for it from .30-06 cases, which was a major chore. It's easier with 7x57mm Mauser, or .308 Winchester. With the latter, the case will be around 0.12" too short, which means not as much neck as actual 7.65x53mm brass. I would think that you would want to avoid heavier bullets with such brass. On the plus side, you should never need to TRIM any brass made from .308 Winchester. You may or may not, with brass made from other calibers.

Classic old military combo and generally very good shooters if the bores good. Stay within reloading data and don't try to load it hot. The 1891 is a early Mauser design that is fine for the pressures it was designed for but not equipped to handle a ruptured case head like the M98. I stay with starting to medium loads for peace of mind. Plus your cases last longer. These Mausers had beutiful metal and wood on them. Enjoy it. You may want to get into casting bullets for it.

I haven't reloaded for mine yet but from what I read it's not much different than 8mm. They are very accurate and thumps a little more than the 8mm Mauser I have.
I'm selling mine. Seems like I never get around to shooting it.
