I was wondering if any one knows how tall, wide, and around the .700 nitro is? I don't realy thing many people would have one but if you do post a picture of it with a doller or some thing to show size if you would.

Hope that helps a little.

The pictures above didn't come out quite "close to actual size". It might depend on your monitor and settings. (The graphic shows it too short and the picture shows it too long on my screen.)

The .700 NE case is 3.5" long and with a bullet it is nominally 4.2" long.

I doubt that round would go 2500 yards, but I'm sure pieces of the gopher would. :D

Takes the term "use enough gun" to a whole new level

IIRC, there was a video on the old "The Firing Line" forum a few years ago that showed an unsupecting individual shooting one of these or something similar. I would not want to have been him.

The video you guys are talking about is from Accuratereloading.com. They used to have a bunch of videos of guys shooting their .577Trex. One of them even had the guts to fire 5 rounds in a row from the bench. If you look around their page, they have pics of a .700NE rifle they built along with ballistic data. iirc, it was about 14,500ft-lbs with a 1000gr bullet at 2300fps. :what:

edited to get the correct order of magnitude. :)

Wow as usual you guys have shown me not to assume any thing. That is one big riffle round. This should give my friend some thing to look at. Of corse as usualy we both make well below the national average at our job so eather one of us buying the actual riffle is way out of the question. If any one would like to show off the guns they have that shoot these rounds that would be interesting to see.

On a side not are there any biger riffle rounds? I'm thinking no but agine some one will probably prove me wrong.

Now that is some big ammo. I saw the one page last night as it was the one I was shoing to my friend when he wondered just how big they were.

Obviously the Brits made a cartridge version.
Now that is a round any biger and its artilery. What do the rounds run in price for that?

Is that class three, being over .5" in diameter? I thought that the BMG was the biggest you could get without stepping over that line...

That is a serious round!

Ok

I'm pretty sure that if I was being chased by a bull elephant, I'd STILL hesitate to pull the trigger on that thing...Stomped by elephant vs. stomped by recoil...probably similar results!

Midway USA can get .700 NE ammo, a box of 5 is a nice affordable $364.95
yeah, when I saw that I figured it had to be a typo, but that's been the price for over a year now. I wonder how much you could save by reloading. . . and where you'd get reloading equipment for that monster. There's no way a standard press would accomodate a cartridge that big (maybe a modified .50BMG press?)

I believe the RCBS' Rock Chucker Supreme would be able to handle a .700 NE. You might have to do some unscrewing of the die each time to get the bullet started, but that would be a minor inconvenience compared to the money saved. RCBS' custom shop also makes a die set for it.

I think the hard part would be finding components for it. You don't pick up NE brass at the range.

On the other hand, if you can afford the rifle and the trip(s) its ownership implies, I guess $73 per round is a rounding error, so to speak.

"'Scuse me old chap. I just bought a couple of cases of .700. Care to have a go at plinking with me at my country estate?"

lol I guess shooting a .700NE is the absurdly rich person's version of "hey y'all look at this." :p

I wonder how hard it'd be to cast rounds for it and how effective they'd be.

Almost forgot to ask. Dose the .700 run on normal powder? I was thinking I saw some whare that it is actualy a cotton type material soaked in an explosive liquid?
