I don't have any pics, but my hunting rifle is a .270 700 with wood furniture. It is topped with a nikon scope. I love that rifle.

Remington 700 Police. Harris Bi-pod, Warne 20 MOA scope base, Burris Xtreme rings, Leupold Mark4 LR/T 6.5x20x50. Since the photo I have had the barrel cut down to 20 inches and threaded. It now has a Yankee Hill Phantom flash hider/mount and a Yankee Hill 7.62 SS Suppressor.

Why are you guys cutting your barrels down to 20"?? I had SPS Tactical but the stock sucked (no free float with tripod or bags since the stock was so flexible) and I decided I wanted a 700P with 26" barrel. I got the 700P but I am going to sight it in correctly when I get a sled. Back to my original question, why are you guys cutting down your barrels?

Cutting the barrels is cool, man!

Glad the LTRs only come in 20", so I didn't need to cut the barrel.

Cut for:
Accuracy
weight saving
portability
fits in the safe better
to add muzzle devices
support your local smith:)

Okay I got all of the reasons except the accuracy. Why is a 20" more accurate, seems counterintuitive.

Why is a 20" more accurate
Less barrel whip....
actually ends up being stiffer than when it was 26" Seen an intresting thread on I believe Snipershide, where they measured accuracy, & velocity, as they cut a barrel down progressivly in 1" increments. A handloader can get the most out of any barrel length, by changing harmonics with velocity.

Don't tell me that 20" was the most accurate length, I sold my Tactical and bought the 700P

wow these are all beautiful rifles.
@1858, is there a difference between the police and vssf besides the caliber?
Also, what is your favorite state to hunt in?

The Police model is a long action carbon steel receiver with a Krieger barrel in a LA AICS stock. The VSSF model is a short action stainless steel receiver with a Krieger barrel in a SA AICS stock.

Same here! My 700LTR:

Has a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5X-20X. I have the rifle back in the original LTR stock with new Burris tactical rings.

I wouldn't even think of cutting my barrel down. longer barrel provides for better accuracy, higher velocity, and makes for better long range weapon.

All true except for the accuracy part;)
