Issue EVERYTHING?

I NEVER got one file to sharpen my cutting tools in RVN. My dad would sent me what I asked for:
"Dad, please send me one 6" an one 8" mill bastard file in medium cut". Happened once a month or so as I "loaned" them out. Had hatchets and machetes but no tools for them. I never saw such bad chairsaw chains in my life. quarter of my shell casings had dents in them.

WOW

That is a long ways! I had to look it up because I couldn't do the math in my head the website I used says that is 2542 feet!! That has to be record of some kind? I seem to remember reading about a Canadian that had a confirmed shot of about the same distance, but can't seem to find the link now.

Mr Mcloud thank you for the hard earned money you and your customers put up to get these guys some decent equipment. Next time you know of a big need such as new scopes why don't you check with the mods here and see if they would mind if you posted something asking for a little dough from THR members. Thank your son for us he sounds like a courageous young man.

Tell you son good shooting .My son was with the 101st on first Deployment over their.(11B) Now he's trying to get on Border Partol.
The military doesn't always supply what you need. You sometimes must go to Civ market a buy.
The men that raided Son Tay(spelling) in N.Viet Nam bought their aim point sights at Sears. To improve the night fireing because. the Gov, didn't have anything like that.
Uncle Sam doesn't always supply you what you need. Just crap from lowest bidder you may not need. Dreamed up by commities in back rooms that never need to use what they THINK troops need. M-16 and that 9mm pistol are 2 of their great ideas. Gee wonder why are troops want M-14 's after 40 years of great service from M-16's. And how come the SF Recon and others all want 1911's. again. Do you suppose the troops are relearning what was known for most of last century 30caliber fifle and 45 cal. pistol rounds Work in combat.

Congrats to the Dad's of Airborne and Recon.

Puts things into perspective. I just took my .22 pistol out to 50 yards!

Safe days and good shooting

Now that has to be demoralizing:)...

Shot from a half mile away:eek: ! Big boom, target drops, and then the target(or his chums)hears the sound:evil: ! Somebody bye that guy a drink(and you too proud pop)!!

+1 on what bromdenlong said! (Except I'm not a vet. Vietnam era but bad back=1Y, they didn't want me; mixed emotions all these years later.)
Thanks and God bless all the vets and current servicefolks!

I wonder if the website that was first introduced to me by a THR, which refers to our own Carlos Hathcock, talks about those same Canucks that served in Afganistan in regrds to shot distance.

cavman

great tribute to those that haven't seen it by the way....I was whistling "Halls of Montazuma" for two mornings straight biking in, no kidding!

You're a great Dad for sending the very best in his time of need. Tell him "atta-boy, do it again!"
SatCong

Thank him for wacking one of the @#$%$.
And as a note, It is a consistant theme through out military literature that the closer you are to the front, the harder it is to get basic supplys . The guys in the rear have everything, the rifleman on the sharp end has the minimum (or less.)

You should not have to send your son anything. Contrary to popular opinion the military DOES provide what the soldier/Marine needs.

Is your son a sniper? If not he does not need what he requested.

I have spent 26 yrs. in line outfits, retired in 89', have a son who is a career Marine and he is well provided for.

The military will give you what you need. No more or no less.

chuckles.....

The military is scraping pennies even as we speak. I had to cut some orders for some guys going to do a equipment turn in and had to justify every penny of it verbally. Asked around I was not the only one who had been quizzed. freakin bean counters...

Congratulations to your Son and a great job. Regarding supply needs, If Vietnam is any lesson, Thank god for Civilian Purchases, because sometime, that was the only way to get what you need. It was also very disturbing to see brand new equiptment being sold by Black market on the streets of Saigon.
