Someone is going to say "this should be in the reloading section".... well. The question I have is regarding the rifle.

I have a 7mm weatherby magnum and brass is getting hard to find. I have successfully converted several 7mm remington magnum cases to 7mm weatherby magnum. My concern is this. Since the neck is shorter on the RM brass I'm worried about throat erosion. Does anyone have any valid data on this other than speculation. I know everyone "knows a guy it happened to". I have a 22-250 with 20 years of hard use and have had zero throat issues with it. I guess I'm just trying to prevent unnecessary wear if possible.

I used 7mmRM reformed for use in my .257wby.
I had no major issues with it.
The brass didn't lengthen enough to match the Wby/Norma brass, no matter how many times I fired/loaded them. The necks will split before you can shoot them that much.

After obtaining some Wby brass, I dispensed with the reformed 7rm brass.
The Weatherby/Norma brass is of such better manufacture, it's rediculous to use anything else.

I did find that the factory brass holds a bit more powder than the reformed Rem-Mag brass, so max loads were lower, and a little slower.
The best option for new brass is to buy the factory loaded Norma ammo. It's the same price as the unprimed Weatherby brass.... And the ammo is decent, too. 1/2moa from my rifle. 100gr load runs 3,400fps from my 24" bbl Vanguard.

edited to add; I feel your pain. I just looked around for 7mmWby ammo and brass. Not much available. However, Grafs did have some .270wby brass. It's as simple as running it through the sizer die to turn it into 7mm.
I've been looking at a Rem. M700 Stainless in 7mmRUM. Can't find brass or ammo for it. But, I do have a sizable amount of .300RUM. I may get it if the price comes down a little...

I have considered going the 270 weather y conversion route. That's not a major issue. I am used to converting to fit my needs. I shoot 300 wsm a lot, no 300 wsm to be found anywhere around these parts, yet 270 wsm can be found easily.

Just curious about the 7mm RUM. I have a 300 RUM and absolutely love it. I also have a 7mm STW, doesn't really turn my crank. It seems like anything beyond the 7mm weatherby mag enters the diminishing returns area, including the new 28 Nosler. Just curious.

MY experience with Wby/Norma grass is, it's soft and doesn't last as long with heavy reloads, especially the primer pockets.

YES it does hold more power, that's because it's thinner and part of the reason the above happens...

I've made a lot of converted brass for Wby. cartridges, and just live with the slightly less capacity.
