I had read of this process in earler posts and yesterday I gave it a try on a beat-up set of AR15 handguards, butt stock and a magazine with zero finish left on it. Went to a local Auto-Zone store and for $8 got a good sized can of flat black truck bed liner. It takes 24 hours to cure with 5 minutes between additional coats. The stuff is GREAT! Its VERY wear resistant and makes a scuffed-up (and worse) stock look better than new. The sray liner (Dupli-Color) gives a small "rounded pebbled look", you can ajust the effect just by holding the spray can closer (4-6 inches) or achieve a more "pebbled look" by spaying 12-14 inches away. Slipping the magazine in and out of the magazine well demonstrated no ill effects as far as fit and the finish did not scape off as black paint will do. Another nice feature of this spray liner is that you can "build-up" areas to eliminate inperfections and dings with a slightly heavier spray, the spray tends to resist running. If you think 'black is beautiful' as I do, this stuff is a real winner for refinishing firearms. The only hard part as far as I am concerned is resisting the urge to "refinish" ALL my guns, even the like new ones
